"What a cute romantic story. I always love a good-friends-to-more romance and Liz Durano delivered that in spades. From the moment I started to read this story I was hooked. This author just has a way with words. It just grabbed my attention and did not let go." -Sherri, Goodreads
"This is a sweet and romantic story with a heartbreaking past." -Shelly, Goodreads
"As a Liz Durano fan since I read Everything She Ever Wanted, this bookbaby was a sweet foray into a different world with her. I love how Liz can take any premise and make a great story with it; no matter if the premise includes heavy subjects like PTSD, death of a spouse or infant, or taking a chance like in this book, where emotional scars are the premise. I loved how Logan and Mariah came together in this story." -Loretta, Goodreads

Mariah owner of a local florist shop that is doing pretty well. It is Christmas time and she is planning on going home to be with her family. And then she gets a call from her mother letting her know that their next door neighbor's son will be home for the holidays with his wife. The reason that is important is because the son was the man Mariah was planning to marry in a short period of time, that is until she caught him in bed with the maid of honor. All bets are off. It has been 2 years and Mariah is so sure she is over him and what they did to her. But she is not, she just doesn't know it.
So, instead of going home by herself she decides to hire an escort for the week-end and just let everyone know that she is not still brooding over the dumped ex. She has moved on and has a fiance to prove it. Mariah has Logan's auto repair shop on speed dial. She has always had a thing for Logan but he is her friend and she is sure he would not be interested in her. She hasn't look at what is right in front of her as Logan has been wanting more since the day he met her. It has been two years now so she knows Logan pretty well. But he always seemed to have a girlfriend.
When her escort called to say his plane had been grounded and he would be unable to keep his date with Mariah. She is standing in the brothers' repair shop when she gets the message. Logan can sense something is wrong and being very upset Mariah tells him the whole story. He very quickly agrees to take the escort's place. So problem solved. She will arrive at her parents' home, pretend to be engaged, simple. What could possibly go wrong? Good question, just wait and see. This is a good read. It is funny and some good lessons are presented. I really enjoyed the story and am sure you will too.
I was not paid for this review. I am not a writer nor do I know one. I am not kin to this author. I am a reader and this is my opinion, nothing more, nothing less. 1/1/2021
Logan is her neighbor as well as her friend so when her escort isn’t able to make it he agrees to go in his stead and pretend to be her boyfriend. When what was supposed to be fake starts to feel real will they cross the line from friends to lovers?

When she learns that her former boyfriend, the one who jilted her just weeks before their wedding, will be back in her hometown with his wife, Mariah doesn’t want to go home appearing single and lonely. So she hires a man to play the role of her fiancé.
Except bad weather prevents him from getting to her in time for the holidays. Desperate, she reluctantly agrees to let her friend Logan step into this farce and play her fiancé instead.
As with all highly contrived plans, this has the potential for disaster written all over it. Their future friendship could become strained; the possibility of the pretend feelings becoming real all lead to an awkward situation threatening everything between them.
This book is a lovely, sweet romance with the characters of Logan and Mariah just perfect for each other, if only they would realise it. It’s a highly enjoyable, holiday novella that I have no hesitation in recommending.
In order to safe face in front of her ex-fiance, Mariah told her family she was engaged. Now they're expecting to meet him over Christmas. Snow storms in the East mean the escort she hired is grounded thousands of miles away so in steps Logan, the man she has secretly lusted over for the last few years.
Mariah tastes of vanilla and honey, of shyness and a vulnerability I've never seen before this moment when all the masks finally come down and it's just us.
This is such a feel good read, not too sentimental or slushy, not to angsty and not just for the holidays. I enjoyed this from first line to last and my only real disappointment is that it's a novella and there wasn't more of Mariah and the extremely sexy Logan. It's a first person story, with both the hero and heroines view points.
Novella's always leave me wanting more, and in this one it was a little more depth to the characters. That's not to suggest they weren't rounded or believable, but I felt more like an acquaintance at times rather than a friend, particularly with Logan as we get less of his POV. I didn't quite get as much of an emotional connection with him. However that is the nature of shorter stories, there is always something that has to 'give'.
I did get plenty of feels from this book, especially the epilogue which really was quite cheesily perfect. It's also a slow-burn, with only one very tasteful sex scene, so whilst it's more of an adult read, it shouldn't offend anyone. I really do recommend this to all those who love reading contemporary romance. You would be missing out on a delightful read if you pass on this one.
