The book is based upon the faxes that Mel and Bill have after coming home from the conference and trying to get the business idea off the ground. Bill's advice to Mel as he searches and struggles to overcome his fears and limiting beliefs is incredibly. To all young entrepreneurs out there, you will be able to easily find yourself in Mel's shoes and when you do, you'll realize that this book was made for you. This is like having Bill as your mentor and him telling you the harsh advice that you need. The advice that your idea is nothing without execution. The advice that you can't wait around for something/someone to pop out of thin air and help you start your business. You have to be responsible and be the one in charge. You have to invest your time and energy if you ever want to have a chance of succeeding in your business.
Bill offers his advice in zen like wisdom and a few of my favorite quotes are:
The secret of happiness, you see, is in accepting (dare I say wanting?) what you already have.
Finally, here's seven words more useful than a million dollars worth of market research: If we'd buy it, it will sell.
I tend to place a greater value on ideas in the form of action than action in the form of ideas.
Life is not an idea. Starting a business is not an idea. It is getting things done.
The book itself is very well written and interesting. It gives you a birds eye view of the initial creation through launch of a very successful brand.
It's different than any business I've read for this reason. It's not broken down into easy lessons. It's a portrait of a business being formed. From crazy ideas to reality.
Because of this organic structure it doesn't quite hold your (my) attention at points. Maybe that's not the point, though. Like sipping tea, it's about the moments, the process, you don't need to race to the end to "get it".
Very inspiring and a must if you are planing a businesses for a very specific niche.
