Jason and Ryder are two very wonderful men with big hearts, and when a cute little pit bull puppy brings them together, they both get to learn what true love means. Their journey is one full of learning, new experiences, understanding love and healing.
It’s not all easy for these two though! Jason has just gotten out of a long relationship with an awful woman and when he meets Ryder he isn’t even sure what he’s feeling. As the two strike up a friendship, it becomes more for him and Jason has to come to terms with these new feelings. Ryder’s parents shunned him when he came out, his mother refusing to acknowledge him as her son or let him be a part of the family. All he wants is to get to spend time with his brother Landon, who still loves Ryder very much. He’s also still healing from the pain of a horrible ex-boyfriend who chose drugs over Ryder, so when Jason comes along Ryder is unsure about trusting his heart to another person.
I adored this story, Ryder and Jason grabbed a hold of my heart and never let go! There is so much genuine love and feeling, and not just from Jason and Ryder but the whole cast of characters in this book. Connor and Emily and their love for each other and Ryder, then there’s Jason’s family, and despite his brother Liam’s early stupidity he comes around to show how family really should love each other. And finally there is the relationship between Ryder and Landon, two brothers who love each other no matter what. Then there is the love that Ryder and Jason build together, a strong relationship that of course has it’s trying moments, but these two stand by each other, building each other up.
Rescued truly is one of my favorite books, a go to re-read when I need that feel-good, heart happy book. Felice has really managed to add to that story with the new material, making this story stronger and even better! She is a favorite author for me and if you haven’t read this book yet, or even if you have, I truly recommend this new version of Rescued! Ryder and Jason and their puppies and friends will steal your heart!
Many things are melding as we go, with Jason coming out, family and friends are involved, the fund raiser, Ryder's ex, and Ryder's horrendous mother shows up, and MORE !
I am loving this author's works, great characters, and completely absorbing stories.
The Epilogue is fabulous ! Highly recommended !
Jason has recently broken up with his longtime girlfriend and despite a brief encounter in college has lived his life as a straight man. He has an “All-American” family and runs a construction company with his brother Liam working to restore buildings within New York City.
Ryder has had his heart broke so often it boggles my mind that he still has such a compassionate soul. He and his younger brother Landon have a strong bond and find ways to see each other despite Ryder’s mother’s best efforts to keep them apart. Little is said about his father other than the fact that he appears to be so busy running his law firm that he doesn’t realize what’s really going on with his family. Despite what appears to be an absentee father and a hateful mother, their two children are loving and caring individuals.
Ryder runs a Rescue Me, a Pitbull rescue, with his best friends Connor and Emily. It is through the rescue that he and Jason meet. Ryder and Emily arrive at Jason’s construction site to rescue puppies abandoned in the building. The chemistry is instant between the two men but they both initially fight this attraction. After Jason adopts one of the puppies rescued that day, he and Ryder become good friends. As they become closer they eventually can’t fight it anymore and act on this attraction.
However, all is not perfect for the boys and they have many obstacles to overcome, not just from outside forces but their own internal issues as well. Is this really love? Are they worthy of love? Will they only end up hurting each other? Is it just an experiment? What they learn is that their love is worth fighting for and despite what life hands them they can overcome the obstacles together. If you enjoy a book with the right amount of angst, squishiness and an HEA this book has it all.
