This story is about a strong heroine, Ali, who is in her 50's. She has experienced many high achievements in her careers, but not in her partners. She has lost most of her family, but has a chosen family of close friends and one cross-country cousin.
Darien is an executive chef in New York at an upscale restraunt near Central Park. He is damanding in the kitchen and works long hours. He has also had professional success but not the time, or the right woman for a long term relationship. He is 34 when he meets Ali.
Their romance is a sweet one, though not always easy due to their age differences.
That's right: Ali is twenty years older than Darien. He finds this interesting; she finds it a reason for caution. His family is horrified that their darling has fallen prey to a cougar (so they think), and Ali needs some convincing that she should open her heart--and her home--to a much younger guy. The love scenes are sweet and tender, the problems are resolved with heart, and the landmarks of NYC make their way into the landscape of Darien and Ali's relationship. This is the perfect book for those who prefer candlelit, silken-sheet romances between consenting adults, especially where the woman is the prize. I'm looking forward to reading the second book in the series, Heartland, and I'm delighted to know the third is coming soon.
