Resident Evil 6 - The Most Ambitious, Immersive Resident Evil To-date

Blending action and survival horror, Resident Evil 6 promises to be the dramatic horror experience of 2012. Resident Evil favorites Leon S. Kennedy and Chris Redfield are joined by new characters, including Jake Muller, to face a new horror, the highly virulent C-virus, as the narrative moves between North America, the war-torn Eastern European state of Edonia and the Chinese city of Lanshiang. Joining this cast will be presidential aide Derek Simmons, who vows to track down Leon for his involvement in the President's death, and femme fatale Ada Wong. But what part will Ada play as the story unravels and does she have ties to the mysterious Neo-Umbrella?

With three distinct, yet interwoven story threads, each with their own pair of protagonists for either solo or co-op play, both offline and online, not only will Resident Evil 6 deliver both different perspectives and gameplay styles but, with the introduction of the innovative Crossover gameplay mechanic players will be able to team up and share the horror. At key moments during the game, up to four players can join together online to tackle a specific situation, with some stages seeing the usual partnerships swapped to further increase the depth of gameplay.

Resident Evil 6 is a great game with many positive sides, but as with any game, there are also flaws. However, these flaws do not necessarily detract from the overall experience that the game has to offer.Overall, on a 10 point scale, I rate the game a 9.5/10.

Graphics: 9.75/10.
The environmental graphics are well-done, not perfect, but well done. Character models (including zombies and J'avo) are exceptional. The graphics are somewhat lacking in the vehicle department, though this is not a huge problem as very little time is actually spent in vehicles.

Gameplay: 9/10
The gameplay is great, at times. The controls can be very fluid, but can also be very irritating. The worst aspect of the gameplay is the "force you to look" camera view. When something interesting or important happens, the camera pans to the event even if you are in the middle of combat. This is great if the important event happens to kill all the enemies you are currently fighting; however, more often than not, while the camera is focused in on an event taking place, enemies are smacking you around. This is especially irritating on Professional difficulty as health items are very limited and each successful attack an enemy lands on you takes a great deal of your health. I still give the gameplay a 9/10 because this isn't something that occurs constantly, but is nevertheless irritating. "Gears of War" was successful where "Resident Evil 6" failed, when consideration is given to the fact that GOW allows you to look when it is convenient for you.

Story: 9/10
The story was great, and the overlapping character stories was quite interesting. However, the moments in which the stories overlapped were quite irritating when you had to fight the same boss in two different campaigns on Professional difficulty. Certain things should have only been done once, but due to the desire for a massive campaign, you are forced to play the same scenario multiple times with different characters.

Sound: 10/10
I can't recall any issues I had with sound. Sound was perfect, all characters voice-overs were very well done and the enemies sounded just as they should.

Replayability: 8/10
Aside from achievements or secondary modes, there is no real reason to play the campaigns more than once (or twice if you didn't play on Professional first). You can collect serpent emblems, though this is a fairly straight-forward process that does not require a great deal of time or effort. The fact that you have to replay specific parts multiple times with different characters greatly detracts from the replayability (at least in my opinion, I beat the game three times, once on Amateur, once on Professional, and once looking for Serpent Emblems, and replaying those specific character overlap parts really began to irritate me). The only reason I give replayability an 8/10 is due to the secondary modes which can be fun....for a while.

Features: 9/10
Once again you can collect serpent emblems and trade them in for "Action Figures". Mercenaries mode has also been implemeneted which is great. It can be quite fun for a while, though it does start to get boring. A new game mode call "Agent Hunt" is rather fun, though once again, you are thrown into parts of the campaign, parts which undoubtedly you have played before. You are able to play as an enemy type (J'avo, etc.) and try to take down actual players while they are playing through the campaign so long as they have Agent Hunt Mode enabled and have it set to Xbox Live.

Package Features: 10/10
By purchasing Resident Evil 6: Archives Edition you receive a code to download Resident Evil 4 HD, Resident Evil: Code Veronica X HD, Resident Evil 5, and Resident Evil 5 Gold Edition Content. You also receive the Resident Evil 6 game disc and Resident Evil Degeneration on DVD. You get quite a great deal by purchasing the Archives Edition of Resident Evil 6.

Overall: Resident Evil 6 Archives Edition- 9.5/10 "Amazing"

What can I say about this game? It's unbelievably underrated as far as Resident Evil goes. Sure it's not as good as most of the old ones but it's not nearly as bad as Resident Evil 5. IMO it's a much better game with much better gameplay. Capcom's main crime here was trying to please everyone as the game really does feel like it has no identity. Other than that, if you hated 5 and didn't get 6 because of the bad reviews - I suggest you ignore them and go pick it up. Plus the Archive collection has RE4, Code Veronica, RE5 Gold Edition (which is worth it just to play the "Lost in Nightmares" DLC which is the game that RE5 should have been) and one of the CG movies. And since I got mine for the price of a single used video game (and it was brand new - no less!) I highly recommend this Archive collection. It's as good as it's gonna get for RE fans who own a 360.

Overall it's fun, but disappointing. I like horror games and RE6 is only horror because it's a zombie game. As a action/adventure game it works well. The "run and gun" feature is nice as a new addition to the franchise. I prefere the old style of RE where you were in stasis while aiming. RE6 does not have that survival instinct which is why I'm disappointed with his game. The graphics and cinematics are nice and really cool visually which is always a good thing. Unfortnetly the new zombies are stupid. Seems they ran out of good ideas. Animals, insects, and soldiers as dumb (especially the ones that shoot at you). They look pathetic and nothing is scary or freighting. I still enjoyed playing this game, but don't expect anything original. If your looking for a real horror game check out Dead Space.

I started playing RE when it first came out, so I have the same problem that a lot of people do when addressing the issue of the more recent games not being the "traditional" RE.

After RE4 came out, branching out in it's own direction, I didn't really follow when the new games were released. I would see them in the store and just decide to play them. The thing that caught my eye on RE6 Archives was that it included Code Veronica, which was my favorite. After downloading it, I tried to play it, but was extremely disappointed with the HD. I mean, I wasn't expecting it to be great, but after playing Silent Hill 2 and 3 in HD, I was really expecting more.

The game is broken into 3 campaigns, you can play them in order, or not, it won't be too hard to understand the story line. There's new characters, and they're really not that bad. The creators were able to develop the characters just enough so that by the time their campaign was done you aren't thinking, "Oh thank god, that's over with." That's a plus.

Each campaign has a different style to it. When you play Chris', you feel more in a FPS that the game turned to in RE4/5. Leon's really does well as it has a more horror/survival aspect to it, as if the game is starting to go back to how it was originally. The third, Jake's campaign is a lot of action, and you use more melee, similar in some ways to Chris'. Your partners do help, you're not going to be running into a situation like Ashley in RE4.

If you can accept that this is a different game than what the franchise originally started out as, then it's a super fun.

Also, if you're playing single player, and you aren't interested in playing with anyone else, be sure to turn the setting to allow agent hunt and live off. This also allows you to pause.

As far as I know the game does work. Now because of a certain issue (Xbox 360 being to cold to allow for disk operation, "unreadable disk" appears) and that has caused the disk, when being ejected, to be ejected while the motor is still engaged. So now disk one has a couple of inch long crescent shaped scratches on the outer area of the disk. Aside from what is my own fault. The price and condition and quality is top notch. Thank You. I Appreciate 💜
