A Worthy Improvement Over the Original

All anyone ever says about the GC version of RE 2 is that it's the exact same game as the original Playstation version. This is not entirely true. While it is not a remake, it does feature some nice extra touches that make it a worthwhile purchase. For starters, right from the beginning of the game you can choose to play either Claire or Leon's story. This is not an option in the original. Also, there is a noticeable improvement in the graphics, especially in the cutscenes. The fuzziness of those old Playstation graphics has been cleaned up quite a bit, and you can actually see people and objects clearly. You will especially notice an improvement in the graphics if you play this version of the game on a standard CRT television, not a high def LCD which cannot handle standard definition and the much better contrast ratios that standard televisions deliver.

I noticed other small changes, as in the names for certain items. Instead of finding two Red Gems in the R.C.P.D, you will find two Virgin Hearts. There may be other slight changes, but I'm not far enough into all the scenarios yet to have seen them all.

The Gamecube version is especially enjoyable if you've been playing the downloadable Playstation version from the Playstation Store. That version looks terrible, not just because it's got the original graphics, but also because most people are playing it on high def tv, which makes standard definition graphics look even worse than they really are. So if you want the best looking version of RE 2, pick up the Gamecube version and play it on a standard television. G never looked so good.

I personally love the franchise, and this game is a classic.
This game is a must-play for those who enjoy zombie-fiction.

In regards to the system and its differences from the PS1:
A lot of people, I think its safe to assume most of them; prefer Resident Evil on PS1. I however, disagree. I enjoy all my Resident Evil Classics on GameCube, I feel the controllers are just "meant-to-be". The changes in graphics and processing power (loading), if any, are barely noticeable. Though I have heard of people complain that loading screens on the PS1 version are slower, and quite frankly that doesn't surprise me since the PS1 has less processing power than the GameCube.

If someone is interested in buying the GameCube version over the PS1 version, I'd say: go ahead.
Nintendo consoles tend to have longer life-spans, the feel of play on the GameCube controller in my opinion is "meant-to-be", and the price on the GC version is lower.

Resident Evil 2 is in every way an improvement from the original game. The main characters in Resident Evil 2 are Leon S Kennedy and Claire Redfield. Each of the two different characters have two different stories between the two of them. Resident Evil 2 features interesting new hidden additions that should only be discovered through play. The time put into this game is greatly worth the effort.

Out of the classics RE this one is arguably the best one in the series. Personally, however it comes second to that of Resident Evil 3. Still Resident Evil 2 should not be underestimated.

Definitely my favorite RE from the original trilogy. (Aside from the near fighting controls in RE3) I'm glad i found this port online! I bought the original playstation 1 dualshock version and... Let me tell you... I played the ps1 version on my ps3 with hdmi settings on my Sharp tv, and compared the experience with the GC version on my wii with just composite cables, and they definitely upped the pixel rate on the GC version! Wow, it was like day and night. So if you just want the best experience of RE2, then get the port to the gamecube! The only reason why i have both is because i'm a hardcore fan and have all resident evils. (Aside from PAL versions of the older ones, and Gaiden... Oh Resident Evil: Gaiden, how you haunt my very dreams with your..... shitiness... [FacePalm]

I am going to write pretty much the same thing I did about Resident Evil 3 for GameCube. This is a port of the Dreamcast version. It includes all of the content that particular version had and also has the graphics smoothed just like Dreamcast version did.

One of the other changes it kept from Dreamcast was inputting a cheat code gives you infinite ammo. So if you suck at the game like I used to, then a few presses lowers the difficulty instantly.

No longer do you have to worry when on hard mode how you avoided ammo pick ups just to shoot down Brad in order to get his special key. You now have enough ammo to put him and the rest of the horde down for good.

So if you own a GameCube or a Wii and happen to be looking at this version, then note that the graphics have only been slightly improved, but this includes a mode not originally in the Playstation version. Well it was included in the second version released on Playstation, but that version did not come out here. However this one also includes the awesome unlimited ammo cheat. For those needing constant A ranks to unlock the elusive Tofu, this is fantastic news as the unlimited ammo cheat does not effect your rank like the special weapons do.

So if you do not have a PS3 and/or do not want to spend $5.99 on PSN, you can get this version and enjoy what I still feel is the best Resident Evil game in the series. On top of that you can even play the extra game mode not present in any American release of the Playstation version. Finally you can also cheat your way to an easy victory.

I ordered this game awhile back, because I've been attempting to collect all the games in the RE series. Unfortunately this game never ever showed up, even well past the delivery estimate and after I received a courteous refund. I've rarely ever lost a package due to the carrier, so I'm not sure what the deal was. The 1 star is for my overall experience.
