The fast-paced, combat intensive action of Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D is available both as a solo experience or gamers across the world can team up and enjoy two-player co-op via network play. Gamers will have the opportunity to tackle the game's missions with legendary Resident Evil characters from past and present and face off against some of the most terrifying enemies, such as the Executioner and Popo Karimu. Playable characters include Chris Redfield, Krauser, Hunk, Jill Valentine, Albert Wesker and, making her debut in a Mercenaries game, Claire Redfield. Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D includes the addition of an all new Skill Slot feature. Players are able to fill three skill slots from a selection of 30 skills including improvements to weapons performance, reload speed or melee abilities and customize characters to best suit their style of play. While the gameplay will be familiar to those who have previously played Mercenaries, changes have been implemented to take advantage of the new hardware, most notably transforming the stages and characters to full 3D plus the ability for players to move and shoot and the addition of touch screen functionality to switch weapons on the fly. Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D will also include a playable demo of the forthcoming Nintendo 3DS title, Resident Evil Revelations. Take control of Jill Valentine and experience the horror to come in this all new Resident Evil title.

First of all. If you have played Resident Evil 4/5/6 then you should be aware of the Mercenaries. Well, this is just the Mercenaries 4/5 put together kinda, although not all stages/characters are in it. No Leon or Ada, for example.

For those new to the series or the Mercenaries, well.. This is practically just a huge minigame, where all you do is kill enemies and survive the time limit. Literally. A few unlockables, costumes, characters, stages, but that's about it. Aim for the highest score. That's this game, in a nutshell. However just this simple thing can last for so long.

For what I have to say about it, I loved Resident Evil 4, 5, 6 and the mercenaries in each game. Spent a pretty good amount of time in each mercenaries. 4 and 5 use the same mechanics just about. 5 was just a little more updated. 6 was the big upgrade, the movements were more fluid, rolling/dodging was possible. Reloading and shooting while moving was nice to have.

Basically what I have to say is, it feels like I'm stepping backwards in terms of movement, and controls. Now, it may not matter to you if you've never played Resident Evil 6, but not being able to melee whenever you want or having more fluid movements kinda made me feel a little more noobish while playing this. Cannot dodge, better hope you can shoot the enemy before they hit you! Turning around is also a little slow.
So that's the cons for me. The controls. Oh, and no zombies. Just your unfriendly living but infected and pretty smart enemies with blades and guns.

The good side? It's the mercs, which is very fun. It's on a handheld, which for me is nice I can play it on a lazy day half naked in my bedroom (where I'm alone, obviously) and play with people across the world. I usually duo with my bro in Europe, so yes it's capable of playing with other regions.. Well. I haven't played online much, so I can't say much for Japan, I think you can though.
Also, there is no stamina system like in RE6 so you can melee all you want. Nice!

So in all, 4/5 stars just a little under 5 because there were a few changes like Jill's face and some other things that I didn't like. But that's just me, I think. I think if you like the Mercenaries you will love this game!

This game takes the Mercenaries modes from Resident Evil 4 and 5, and make a whole game out of it. It doesn't entirely succeed, though, since there isn't much content.
A lot of people give this game flak for not allowing you to delete save data. If you don't mind only being able to unlock stuff once, getting a new copy with no previous save data should be fine.

The game does NOT allow you to use the Circle Pad Pro like in Resident Evil Revelations. If you like the classic RE4 style of shooting, you're good to go.

The characters you can play are Chris, Jill, Rebecca, Claire, Krauser, Wesker Barry, and HUNK. No Leon, Sheva, or Ada, strangely.

Pros:
- Controls well
- The same score-attack action of console Mercenaries complete with bosses, combo time, challenges, everything you like
- Unlockable characters, costumes, achievements, weapon loadouts, and special skills
- Local and online 2-player co-op

Cons:
- Not a fully-priced game's worth of stages or enemies

Verdict:
If you love the Mercenaries modes from 4 and 5 and you can get this game for $20 or less, I think it's worth it, especially if you have a friend to play with.
