Resist (Wicked Ways Book 1) Kindle Edition
From the New York Times bestselling author of the Driven series comes a powerful romance about reaching great heights through low depths.
Who says you have to play by the rules to get what you want?
Agreeing to meet Ryker Lockhart is my first mistake. Rich, handsome, and more than intriguing, he thinks blackmail will bend me to his will.
But he’s wrong.
I may have done a few things that weren’t exactly legal, but I have my own reasons for that. The last thing I’m going to do is let some high-powered divorce attorney come into my life, have my body, and rule my heart. Not to mention ruin everything that I have carefully built in just a short amount of time.
But as much as I try to resist him, and against my better judgment, there is something about him that has me agreeing to his proposal.
I’m putting everything on the line for him. I just hope I won’t lose everything when this is all over.

I'm so mad at this point can believe what ryker did wow can wait to read the next book
I definitely recommend this author books
This book is sassy and sexy with lots and lots of interesting activities
This storyline was well developed, the characters were strong & the love story just angstey enough to keep the plot going with so many little mysteries in this book that I’m willing to read book 2 without being too upset. 😊 I try not to read continuing stories they just don’t seem to hold up in book 2 but this one is really good! Well worth the time. K Bromberg always weaves a good tale, strong main characters & good love story with some teeth!
I loved Vaughn! She is strong, smart and focused on her end goal, getting custody of her niece. She’s determined to get there by any means possible…even if it’s running an escort service!! Always the professional she finds herself over a barrel when one of her girls has to sit some time out. Thus, leaving her shorthanded for a new, important client, Ryker Lockhart. Even though she had never crossed the line between business owner and client she was left with no option but to this one time. Not wanting to lose this chance of gaining Ryker as a new client, just think of the potential business a hot-shot divorce attorney could send her way.
Now a little about Ryker. As mentioned above he is a hot shot attorney for powerful, wealthy men. He’s used to calling the shots, never takes no for an answer but he also doesn’t chase after women. So, what happens when Vaughn goes against all her rules and decides to play the part of one of her escorts? Not only does Ryker intrigue her but there is something about him that just unnerves her, causing her to leave. Of course, this leaves Ryker just as puzzled.
Putting two and two together Ryker realizes that his escort is actually Vaughn. Now this man who never chases women is chasing Vee. What makes it even harder for Vee to thwart Ryker’s relentless pursuit of her is her own attraction to him. But where will this mutual attraction lead them?
Resist is definitely a “MUST READ” book.
Ryker is the divorce attorney who doesn’t believe in love and looks at physical intimacy as a transaction. As readers get to know him and his family, it is clear why he feels paying for companionship is the safest and easiest way to go when it comes to meeting his needs. The use of secondary characters definitely goes to showing his softer side and as the novel progresses can readers see more heart.
Vaughn, while likable, fell into the stereotypical escort heroine. She doesn’t want to do it but has to do it, and if you have read any escort books you have a general understanding of what happens not just to her character but between her are the hero.
The story itself, while written and paced well, lacks any surprises. About 4-5 chapters into the story, I knew the basic plot line, and there was not a single deviation from my expectations. I needed a curve ball, something unexpected to make me want to keep reasing, unfortunately that didn’t happen. Even the ending didn’t shock me. This may be because readers have Ryker’s POV, so I didn’t buy what he was saying and what she was hearing. I also feel like I know the plot of book 2 for the most part.
This is not a bad book in any way, shape or form. I, personally, just need a bit more anticipation in more stories, more of the “I don’t know where this author is taking me” moments.
