A pretty decent mid-generation PS3 shooter

A fun mid-generation PS3 FPS game. It has some bugs, sure, and the multiplayer has been shut down since 2014, but this is easily worth buying for the singleplayer alone. For a last-gen game that came out seven years ago, Resistance 3 still looks really good when you look past the brown color palette. The gameplay harkens back to older FPS games where you have no regenerating health and are up against an absurd amount of enemies. Each level is wonderfully detailed in a way that makes them unique.

If you haven't played the other two Resistance games, don't worry -- Resistance 3 happily recaps the events of those games before you start running around. The story, from what I've played so far, is serviceable and feels like more than filler. The main character isn't the most unique, but at the very least, he's not some military dudebro, space marine, blatantly worse version of Batman, or any of the other thousand-or-so FPS protagonist cliches. If you play games for their stories, Resistance 3 shouldn't disappoint.

Other than Splitscreen Co-Op, Resistance 3 is unique in the sense that it was one of the few PS3 exclusives to support the PlayStation Sharpshooter and 3D for 3DTVs. The 3D is decent enough, but I sold my Sharpshooter ages ago so I can't say much about that. If you really want a PS3 game that has 3D or Sharpshooter support -- one of the three that exists -- this is an alright pick.

UPDATE REVIEW after just finishing the campaign: Awesome Game! The 3D is amazing. Tough, but fun as can be. Too bad about the install issues I listed in the original review. This woulda been a 4 or 5 star rating for the campaign play.

Original review: I needed to get this review up right away to hopefully save others great frustration. Before you put the disc in your PS3 for the first time, disconnect from the Internet and DO NOT do the update. Only after the game has been installed should you attempt any updates. If you attempt to do the update right from the start along with the initial instal (as the pop up screen will ask you to do upon initial start-up) you may run into some very severe issues. I did as have many others. Google it. It can cause the game to not play and freeze on a black screen and then take several hours to delete the bad patch. So, just remember to disconnect from the web first. Then install the game. Then reconnect to the web and do any updates. You will be glad you did.

If you did not have this problem, good for you. I did and so did many others. Like I said, google it.

I have been playing the game for a couple of hours now. About half as much time as it took to deal with the install issues. Game seems fine. I don't imagine it sucking. However, it can never get better than 3 stars from me given the terrible software issue upon install. It was just rediculous. Note too that if you already did the update that causes the freezing and are trying to delete it, it can take over 2 hours to delete.

ill start by saying this. I've passed up a lot of PS3 games back in the day and the resistance series is one of them. I used to be really into the Xbox 360 and got in PS3 pretty late so I missed a lot of PS3 games when they first came out. After recently playing resistance 3 let me just say WOW! Where to begin? I'll split it into three sections. Here we go.

Story:
Even though you don't have to play the first two resistance games to know what's going on is recommend it. The story I thought was pretty good. I liked the characters and there were some parts where the story had me like aw why did that happen? Haha it had me really into it. It's fairly long too. I like to take some breaks when playin a game. I think it took me three days to finish up the single player story. Overall I thought it was good.

Graphics:
The graphics are pretty damn good in resistance 3. I'd say it's probably one of the best looking games on the PS3. Right next to uncharted games and kill zone 2 and 3.

Gameplay:
Gameplay is great. I do enjoy first person shooters. Resistance 3 has you in some pretty good gun fights. There are moments when you'll be fighting alone. Others times you'll be up against giant monsters in boss fights. You can also upgrade weapons you use in the game which is pretty cool.

Verdict:
Resistance 3 is a damn good game. I honestly regret not play this one back in the day. If you own a PS3 and haven't played resistance 3 then shoot get out there and grab a copy. It's a lot of fun.

I mean this game is really good if you want a good game to play. I am not sure how they messed up the previous ones, but I must admit I bought resistance 2 day one and didn't even complete the single player, went to online it was just as bad. To say the least I was totally annoyed with it. However, that is not the case with resistance 3 they totally remade the entire game and did a great job at making it a better experience for the consumer. The weapons are upgrade-able which adds to the fun as well as there being some cheats, you get points when you unlock the trophies for the game which in return allow you to purchase a cheat if you have enough. and you can pay online with a friend at all times through the campaign. The online MP was re-done and I spent a little time there, but there was no need too really because there were no MP trophies. The most outstanding part of this game is the 3D I felt like I was in the game because from debris flying in my face like rain to the enemies!! I found myself jumping outta my seat a few times when something popped out when it was really quit lol. Though the depth that the 3D adds too the game makes the game incredibly fun. I honestly want every game I play like this now. This is probably not until next gen but at least Sony for-saw a chance in 3D when they made the ps3. I do realize a lot of people do not have the money for a 3d TV but SAVE UP, I saved for a year and man its worth all my savings. A sure buy if you had a 3D TV even if you don't the game is still good enough.

One of the most fun games available on the PS3! It's a big improvement over Resistance 2 (which was great too!), with better graphics, new weapons, and good storyline. It has really tense moments and it gets difficult now and then. Awesome multiplayer too. Go get it if you have a PS3 and don't own it yet. It's cheep now too.
