Wall Street Journal columnist and New York Times bestselling author Kim Strassel argues that the all-out "Resistance" has become dangerously reckless in its obstruction of President Trump.

Among the most consistent and aggressive criticisms of Donald Trump is that he is a threat to American democracy -- a human wrecking ball demolishing our most basic values and institutions.
Resistance (At All Costs) makes the opposite case -- that it is Trump's critics, in their zeal to oppose the president, who are undermining our foundations.

From the FBI's unprecedented counterintelligence investigation into the Trump campaign, to bureaucratic sabotage, to media partisanship, to the drive-by character assassination of Trump nominee Brett Kavanaugh, the president's foes have thrown aside norms, due process and the rule of law.

Resistance (At All Costs) shows that the reaction to Trump will prove far more consequential and damaging to our nation long-term than Trump's time in office.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"A rare writer who immediately recognized the deception and corruption fueling the collusion hysteria, Strassel vividly describes the 'Russiagate' hoax as well as the Left's shocking disregard for honesty, integrity, and the rule of law."―Congressman Devin Nunes

"Strassel's courage to stand up to the groupthink of the political media makes her a national treasure. Her fact-filled reporting exposes a simple but hidden truth: The Resistance is violating the norms they claim to care so much about, leaving a lasting and damaging mark on the country."―
Mollie Hemingway, senior editor, The Federalist

"Fifty years from now, when historians try to understand how America devolved into lunacy, they'll read this book. Nobody's sharper, wiser or more precise than Kim Strassel."―

This is a straightforward, authoritative account of a current political phenomenon: the Trump 'Resistance'. Not the never-Trump group. Not the traditional democrat voter group. Not the Trump skeptics. The book concerns the self-described members of the Resistance who see themselves at war (like the French Resistance during WWII) and who are prepared to do anything and everything to repeal the results of the 2016 election and, in the meantime, frustrate the Trump administration's efforts at every turn.

The principal theme of the historical account of the Resistance's efforts is that their actions have distorted our politics and our country and will have long-term negative results. One example: Nadler demanded that AG Barr turn over all materials from the Mueller investigation. All materials. Including grand jury materials. Grand jury materials cannot, by law, be shared with Nadler. If Barr did this he would be breaking the law. Hence, he couldn't and didn't. Nadler promptly held him in contempt of Congress. Being in contempt of Congress should be a serious thing and it should persist, as a potential tool for Congress to wield. By utilizing it in a manner such as this the tool is trivialized and not taken seriously. This will have potential long-term effects.

The book proceeds, chapter by chapter, dealing with individuals (Comey, e.g.) and events (the Kavanaugh confirmation circus, e.g.). The legislative branch comes in for significant criticism, as does the media and the regional judiciary. The facts are recounted clearly and crisply; the history is tight and persuasive; the writing is lucid and pointed.

Bottom line: a first-rate account from a reputable journalist who represents a serious and responsible news organization. For those who have not been paying attention during the last three years, here is your primer. For those who have been paying attention but have not remembered each and every item adduced by the author, here is your test prep manual.

Bonus: the story is told in approximately 220 pp. and reads quickly and efficiently. Kudos to KS for reminding us of what the Resistance has wrought. If she is right, the results will be with us for generations.

Books written by authors venting their spleens about the sorry state of current politics seem to be spouting out of printing presses in any ever-growing torrent. The problem: they consist of a huge number of emotional claims—mostly complaints—supported by a paucity (or total absence) of believable facts. Thus, they are merely baseless rants—deeply satisfying to their author and those of similar ilk--but useless as news or civil discourse.

Enter Kimberly Strassel’s work, “Resistance (at all costs): How Trump haters are breaking America. ” Unfortunately, this title—being a conclusion rather than a fact--gives the incorrect impression it is merely another screed. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Ms Strassel’s methodolog is to assemble a string of facts into an orderly, logical argument, and then tie everything up with a solidly evidenced conclusion. The process repeats itself. Soon, you begin to realize that her conclusions are all leading to some greater truth—a truth you may not have been ready to embrace--but now, under the pressure of logical reasoning, find difficult to dodge.

Her narrative is compelling under all circumstances, but particularly so if you are—as she must be—of a conservative persuasion. Indeed, she has become a welcome guest on FOX news. However, her political analysis and literary skill have put her on the Board of the Wall Street Journal. As such she commands an ever-larger audience.

What a treat it is to read a thesis that is both well-reasoned and well-written! No more suffering through an author’s midlife crisis or inability to control his emotions. Nor is there any of the deviousness of an author trying assemble facts in such a way as to deliberately lead the reader to some pre-conceived conclusions.

The work starts with The FBI’s criminal-in-Chief, J. Edgar Comey. Strassel assembles a long list of his schemes—clever to their rotten core-and his brilliant execution. His various machination against President Trump drew in an entire cabal of Trump haters, each one of which was of high station, each one of which hated Trump for one reason or another, and each one of which now knew what to do to help bring him down.

Again. Strassel does not just ventilate her frustrations of ideologues who lost an election; rather, she assembles a long, coherent series of interlocking event, most of which were acts of questionable legality, and all of which were of no legitimate legislative or judicial concern of the bureaucrats and elected officials who found their long-enjoyed fiefdoms under serious attack.

“Resistance (at all costs)” is an excellent continuation of Gregg Jarrett’s fine exegesis of the initial plan to depose Trump--“The Russian Hoax the illicit scheme to clear Hillary Clinton and frame Donald Trump.” Read each in order and you will get as fine an explanation in what in the world is going on in the Deep Swamp as you are likely to get anywhere.
