I'm a fan of contemporary spirituality books -- and especially books in this vein, exploring New Thought/Law of Attraction principles.
Many of these books are ho hum, run of the mill. Not so with Resistance Is Feudal. The author had me early on with this formulation: "This Earth Life is a game, and Love is what really matters the most."
DeRose dives deep, but delightfully so. You feel like a companion along for a road trip through consciousness. She's the kind of guide you want! Funny, informative, patient, exploratory . . . best of all she gives concrete examples. Which I greatly appreciate -- because it's where the details are. Even better, she breaks down possible responses to common situations, making it easy to grasp.
I came to this book because I'm an enthusiastic follower of the author's blog . . . and wanted to go more in depth. Sometimes that can be a disappointment, because many writers are masters of the short shot -- the blog post -- but lack the stamina to go book distance. With Debbianne DeRose it's where the real rewards are. Her vision runs deep.
This book takes it a step further, though. It walks us through examples of how we can release resistant, negative, combative thoughts--and move into thinking (and action) that make for a happier, more loving, more satisfying life.
The scenarios run from basic daily events (like getting stuck in a grocery line, getting cut off in traffic, or going on yet another sucky date) to more weighty events (like illness and divorce). For each scene, the event is described, and then Debbianne walks us through four possible ways we might react, each one moving us up into a more released, higher vibration:
1. Resistant reaction (the angry/frustrated/resistant things that might go through your mind)
2. Non-resistant neutral responses (an objective non-judgmental, non-attached description of what has happened)
3. Moving forward (different ways to think about what happened that might better serve you, and what a next step might be)
4. Adopting a sporting attitude (what you might gain from this situation, what you might learn, how you might grow and expand, how you can see the bigger picture)
Especially for the more common, daily scenarios, Debbianne shows us how we can lighten up and see the humor or absurdity in the situation. This approach is reflected in her fun writing style; her voice is filled with quirky humor--as the title of the book makes clear!
I realized as I read the book that, in my desire to feel better about something, I at times skip #2: the neutral acceptance. I now see more clearly how that's an important part of the process of releasing resistance. It takes the heat off the situation and helps me ease into ways of thinking that are more compassionate, loving, and chill.
Although I think everyone can benefit from reading this book, I think it would also be very good for teens.
With her usual flair, and lots of heart and soul that this prolific author breathes into her writing, Debbianne examines some of the modern concepts popularized by well-known spiritual teachers.
''Manifestation can be swift and magical, or it can be slow, steady and logical. Or something in between.'' And it's up to you to choose the vehicle and its speed...
Richly illustrated with stories and descriptions of different emotional responses to various real life scenarios, 'Resistance is Feudal' is perfect for people who feel more comfortable with the 'small steps' method over big quantum leaps of manifesting, yet still enjoying the thrill of a challenge.
Whatever path you are on at the moment (whether you're snuggly settled in a lifestyle of all around abundance, and using 'manifestations' only to enrich your already fabulous existence, or whether you're a person for whom acquiring a new piece of clothing requires a miracle) if in agreement with your heart's purpose, this book may prove to be your great life's guide without hurting anyone in the process.
Certainly worth a try, and if it works for you, you may also recommend it to a friend. As you go along, you might find out that the more you learn, the more your eyes may become open to some brand new perception that will lead you in a completely unexpected direction...
End in end, you'll emerge wiser than ever before. And knowledge is power.
