From what we know Nolan is a party animal, loves the ladies and no cares. I mean he can come off as cocky and all but he has a loner way about him too. What we find out is that he has issues and skeletons. I'm curious what made this guy such a commitment phobe and all his avoidance of questions. He needs to get past all that holding him back if he wants to move forward with Lainey. The lines blur a lot between the now friendzone and the hot lovers. I felt for Lainey but she needed to be stronger only way Nolan will shape up.
At times I wanted her to ditch him but the heart wants want it wants or maybe lust wins over sometimes. Their relationship can be good but frustrating too. I didn't quite get the feel strongly aside from the physical for Lainey and Nolan to be honest but they were fun and entertaining to read. I would've wanted her to make him work for it. But that's them. Overall a good addition to the series, still upbeat and light I still liked book one more but I enjoyed this installment. What I'm truly interested in is the new character introduced here Eliza and Benny's book. Maybe Dylan too those sound meaty.
This is book two in this series and I had so much fun reading this one. Lainey is a firecracker that's for sure. What starts as something casual begins to have more meaning for her, but she's not sure if Nolan can see past the "casualness" of their relationship. And Nolan, he's hot, he's a hockey player, he's a dirty talker and oh my so sexy. There isn't one thing about this book I didn't love. Well except for when I wanted slap him upside the head for being such a jerk and not seeing what was right in front of him!
This book is exactly what I needed after reading some pretty dark and twitsty stories. And there's a part in the book that had me rolling on the floor...let's just say neon green is a popular color in Las Vegas!!!
Nolan has been burned badly by love in the past when he was young and trusting, and that experience jaded him to the point where he has sworn off love in favor of only good time girls and puck bunnies now. Lainey Shelburne is enough to make him second guess that decision, and that has him panicking in a big way. They are positively combustible when they get together but their personalities mesh well too to the point where they just get each other. When Lainey tries to get Nolan to commit to being something more than just friends with benefits where they can actually be seen together in public, he completely shuts down and hurts her in the process. By the time he pulls his head out of his butt, it may be too late but he is nothing if he is not determined to win her back... even though he isn't sure he is ready for more.
Lainey is definitely a wild child and Nolan's easygoing adventurous spirit complements her perfectly, but she is not willing to open her heart to him just to have him stomp all over it again so she decides she is going to make him work for it for this time. She puts him firmly in the friend zone and sex is entirely off the table...or the wall...or the bed...well you get the idea :-) He reluctantly resigns himself and his boys to a perpetual state of being blue, but he is surprised to find he is actually enjoying this whole friends thing even as it makes him want her more.
And so begins a long road filled with back and forth and first one then the other tries to get up the courage to admit their true feelings only to have some random circumstance pop up and derail them. There are plenty of humorous moments along the way, and I particularly loved when Lainey decided she was going to derail his evening with the boys at a new strip club near the arena. The UST is off the charts until finally Nolan has to either put up or shut up. Lainey decides she can't keep living her life waiting for him to decide if he wants her or not, and he has to choose quickly before she moves on. In typical Nolan and Lainey style, they go back and forth between all or nothing until one finally wins out!
Resistance on Ice was an enjoyable read that seemed to fly by, and I loved both Nolan and Lainey! Brent and Aubrey from the first book on the series made plenty of appearances since they are completely entwined in each other's lives, and a few new people were highlighted as well including fellow teammate Benny and Lainey's new best friend Eliza. Now that pairing has trouble written all over it and I am looking forward to that story! In the meantime, go get your 1-click on for Resistance on Ice and enjoy the ride.
