This is early Whitney G and she is just as good then as she is now.
This book was amazing, characters had depth and tons of chemistry. Jonathan ( alpha, sweet, perfect bb) meets Claire and immediately falls for her and wants to take her out. Claire plays hard to get and tries to blow him off because she feels the age difference ( 11 years) between them is a lot, plus she's a mother of two and she's trying to move on from her failed marriage. Yeah as if all that can stop Jonathan from taking her out. Their push and pull works and the heat these two generate is filled with passion while being hot. Claire however lets him slip out of hands briefly due her insecurities but realizes what they have is rare and special. Looking forward to book 2.
The heroine is "mature" and "not a gold-digger" but keeps lavash gifts within days of meeting him (like leather car seats and Harry Winston jewelry) and fills SIX carts at Home Depot without batting an eye.... but pouts when he won't take payment for a grocery list SHE GAVE HIM because "its too much"??
I want to like her, but she is acting just as spoiled and crazy as his exes.
Then the whole sex in a room full of colleagues while they were meditating thing was eye-roll worthy. Really? Even if they have headphones in, other senses still work. And when they opened the adjoining room, surely light would have funneled through.
Too much is so far fetched it detracts from the story.
Claire had to be one of the most frustrating people ever. I understand insecurities. We all have them. I understand not feeling comfortable with the age gap. But there should be a limit as to how many times it's going to be brought up in both conversations and thoughts. I felt like it was a broken record. One I was more than ready to chuck out the window.
Jonathan had potential. I wanted to like him. I really did. But this is a man who threw his money around in ways that had me rolling my eyes. Gifting a HARRY WINSTON bracelet and letting someone drive your BUGATTI before you're even dating or getting intimate had me laughing. I felt like he was a sugar daddy trying to buy her and it made it impossible for me to feel an actual connection between them because of it. And don't get me started on the things he would do to Claire in the presence of his other employees.
This book was lengthy, drawn out, and repetitive. I'm not saying that to be mean, it's just that Claire and Jonathan were on a never-ending loop of having sex, pleading their cases as to why they should (or in her case, shouldn't) be together, and repeat. Repeat. Repeat.
Needless to say, this was a one star read for me. Resisting the Boss was written years ago, and I'm glad that this wasn't my first sampling of Whitney's work because I know she's since improved.
Even though I'm happily married, I could somewhat relate to the main female character, Claire. She's turning 40, suffered a brutal heart blow by her ex-husband and is trying to make it work and pick the pieces up and raise two daughters. She finds love in 28-year old Jonathan, owner of the company she happens to work for. He's smitten by her, and she is too, but the age difference is a huge issue for Claire.
40 can be a tough ego blow sometimes. We may think we don't have "it" anymore, that we aren't sexy, that we're old. And that's SOOO far from the truth. 40 is the new 30 like they say. And Claire has to decide between letting those insecurities grab a permanent hold on her, or take a leap of faith and take a chance at love, regardless of social "norms".
Loved this book!

There are lots of great steamy scenes. The story line is good, and there are some unexpected twists and turns.Read more
