Resolving Social Conflicts and Field Theory in Social Science Kindle Edition

4.7 4.7 out of 5 stars 42 ratings

APA is proud to reissue these two classics by Kurt Lewin, Resolving Social Conflicts and Field Theory in Social Science, in one comprehensive volume.

In Resolving Social Conflicts, Lewin's writings reflect the applied psychologist—his practical interests in the nature and causes of social conflicts and his search for techniques in preventing and resolving them. In Field Theory in Social Science, his concerns are those of the social scientist and the conceptual and methodological tools for understanding the individual and society.

An opportunity to read some of Lewin's original works. Lewin is very readable and easy to understand. If you're needing to read primary sources, this book provides a wonderful opportunity to read the papers in chronological order.

What a great find. Dr. Kurt Lewin, a Jewish Sociologist, moved to the US at the start of WWII. He wrote many papers comparing the social-culture of pre-war Germans and US-Americans. This book has provided me with some great clarity into the methodology of great-grand-relatives and the like; I can even see which cultural traditions seem to have been passed down and along and how that's played out here in the States: very fun!.....I would say he (Lewin) was a pioneer in the field of Sociological Sciences.

This double compilation is comprised of Lewin's classic contributions in social sciences. They laid the foundations for what we have known since the 1950's as 'field theory' - Lewin's original and unique contribution in social psychology that brought vectors and fields into the social sciences. He was one of a band of social theorists and clinicians who held committed left-wing positions in Weimar Germany and who, for this reason as well as their Jewish identities, were targets for immediate attack with the Nazi accession in 1933. A smaller circle were scattered and survived, but most of them perished. Of those who found their way into exile, Lewin became one of the most celebrated in the short span of time he was to live. He died of a heart attack in the USA in only 1947. In his lifetime he published only monographs and these are two of his most celebrated. The work of Allport, Stock-Whitaker, Agazarian, Foulkes and Anthony and a host of other equally original clinicians and social theorists had the benefit of his influence.
