"The author did a number on my brain. I was just expecting a sweet--cowboy meets a widow and calls her darlin'--and they live happily-ever-after. Nope, that's not what happens. I can't give you details. Let's just say I've perfected my WTF face."-Iscream Book Blog

But, here goes......
I think it takes a special kind of author to write about extreme sadness and grief and not make me feel depressed myself. This story's characters all deal with grief, regret, anger, confusion and love each in their own unique way. Each character, and I include the children too, struggles through their own dark times, and each finds solace in the others.
This story is uplifting without being sappy. It made me think hard and long about events in my own life, and to reflect on how they shaped my life, and how I feel about them years later.
I think this is a book I'm going to have to take some time to absorb, and then I'll come back and read it again just to see how much I've learned about myself.
I'm not one bit surprised that some of the events are written from the author's own life. I could feel the genuine thoughts and emotions as I read her story.
Thank you Ashley, for a thought provoking, fun, and charming time spent with your characters.
Safety:
Om drama- Heroine is widowed I think for a little over a year, and it does cause some drama but not really jealousy. Mainly just the heroine still handling her grief. She also has kids with him.
Ow drama- Hero was previously engaged and had a baby on the way but found she cheated on him and baby isn't his, and it doesnt cause any drama/jealousy. A girl the hero had made out with in HS has some appearances and hero almost goes out with her.
Both I think have been celibate since their previous relationship
No cheating/sharing
No virgins/no manh*e
With four children to raise, she works to find the strength within to be the mother her children need. Never planning to meet someone new, she struggles with her feelings that continue to grow stronger everyday for her neighbour Reid.
He is amazing with her children, helping out wherever he can with them and her. He makes it clear how he feels about her but is respectful enough to not rush or push anything on her that she’s not ready for.
The chemistry and buildup to Layla and Reid’s relationship was sweet and steamy.
I loved how infatuated Reid was with Layla and in turn her to him.
Reid is so understanding towards Layla as she works through the guilt of her feelings towards him while still loving her late husband.
He too has suffered loss but the book reveals all his past hurt and demons ever so slowly that you cannot resist reading on.
I’m so happy I came across this book by chance!
It made me laugh, cry and smile as it was so full of pain, loss, hope and love.
Beautifully written from start to finish, The story did not shy away from each characters journey of grief and mourning while moving forward in life.
Top reviews from other countries

Layla has lost her husband as a result of a drink driver, although this isn't spelt out until towards the end of the book. Reid also has his demons and you don't know what these are until the final few chapters when everything unravels for Layla.
Layla has spent the year since her husband's death trying to be everything to their four children, even moving and but it then horses. Reid returns home and starts to help the family heal, building bonds with the children and Kayla but just as they seem ready to declare their love Reid's secret years them apart. But love and forgiveness makes Layla search out Reid but is it enough for Reid?
I love the NEW that Ashley gives this couple and their family. So many times I wanted to scream at both Layla and Reid and then I wanted to cry with them. A fantastic book about second chances.

I’ve had a pain in my chest throughout as we take an emotional journey with Layla, her four children and Reid.
A journey of discovery, forgiveness and acceptance beautifully portrayed and lovingly crafted.
Thank you Ms Munoz for this story it left a smile on my face and a warmth in my heart❤️🩹
