Some awesome samples from this book:
"My unfulfilled dreams paraded up and down the streets, throwing beaded necklaces from purple crepe-papered floats, and lifting their shirts, gleefully exposing themselves. I walked among them, dazed and confused, wondering, what the hell happened?"
"My husband makes love to me like a beloved slipper: I fit so well and am such a comfort; he can’t help but want to slip inside for the warmth and familiarity. He likes to know he’s pleased me, wants me to sleep with a smile on my face, but he’s never once looked for the hidden parts. I doubt he’s ever considered there might be hidden parts. He loves me but he doesn’t know me. And I can’t blame him."
A pivotal scene of confession pits Alex and hubby in a ferocious fight, one that splits the seam of their marriage. It is so powerful that I was embarrassed by witnessing one of their most intimate moments. Alex constantly asks herself, “What am I missing?; What am I missing in this life?; What is wrong with me.?; How will I face my kids and husband?’’. This is a real dilemma posed by the author in her provocative book. There are no simple answers offered, but it questions are blindingly visible.
Long story short: this is "Unfaithful" meets "Fifty Shades" meets "Parenthood" (the movie, not the show).
A very satisfying read.
