Stop Thief is a family game of logical deduction for 2-4 players (1-5 players with various play modes). An invisible suspect commits a crime. Only the sounds they make will give them away. Listen to the clues and figure out where they are hiding. Play cards from your unique deck to mover around the board, sneak through a window, or even get a private tip. Once you have the suspect pinned down, swoop in and make the arrest.

The object of the game is to hunt down the thief by following a series of audio clues around the board. It uses deductive reasoning and memory skills - we were impressed by how quickly our eight and seven year old kids caught on and were tracking the suspect with us.
My one comment on this game is that it makes me sad that the an app is required to play, because having the device be a part of the original game was part of what made that fun when we were kids. Also, it means our kids have to use one of our phones if they want to play on their own.
However, that said, the app is quite impressive and it won me over quickly. I like that there are so many options to customize game play, including using the classic clues and sounds from the original game. I also love that there are more additions coming to the app, including cooperative play. We already play cooperatively with our kids, but I'm interested to see how they choose to set that up.
Overall, I highly recommend this game - it's quality gameplay and a lot of fun for families.
Game play is smooth and easy, with easy-to-read instructions both in the app and included in print. On Standard settings, we usually catch the criminal in 5 to 10 moves, and makes for a well-paced game (fast enough to keep attention, but slow enough to not easily confuse people). The app is easy to use and simple, and currently allows for more challenging game play with advanced settings (i.e. the criminal may open a door but not go thru it, or may escape thru the subway). Also worth mentioning, the app does not distract from game play - simple sounds and animations enhance the play, but we never felt like we were watching the screen more than the board, our hand of cards, or having fun with other people. The cards, pieces, and board are all good quality and are easy to read and distinguish. Rules say a max of 4 people, but we found that playing with 5 or 6 doesn't cause a concern - we just race to a certain dollar amount.
We'd definitely recommend this one for families or a good introduction to folks who usually shy away from board games. The pace is great, the app is helpful and additive without distractions, and the play is simple yet challenging. The app says that updates are coming soon - for Solo Play, 1-vs-All, and other options to expand the fun. We love it!
Thanks, Restoration Games!
It's a loving but modern recreation of the original game, which is fairly simple: get a clue (a sound delivered via the game's free companion app downloaded to your mobile device), play a movement card to move your pawn to a location you have deduced is closest to the thief, then if you believe you're in range, attempt an arrest! The instructions are simple and clear, clear enough that my kids easily grokked them on our first play through. The art is clean and colorful, and easy to understand. The companion app is likewise clean, and simple to use, and thanks to the more modern platform, can and will be upgraded to support various other modes of play. You can also set levels of difficult within the app, which largely results more movement options for the hidden thief.
In execution, it's a fun, light deduction game that's ideal for a family gathering. Although it suggests 10+, younger kids will have little trouble understanding the mechanics, perhaps with a little training/guidance on their first game or two. The sounds are bright and unambiguous, and the app easy to use. The highlight of play is the suspense between when you request the next clue from the app and waiting for the next sound hinting where the thief is heading... did the thief break a window? Hit the city streets? Perhaps boarded a subway? Can you narrow down the thief's location sufficiently to make an arrest this turn? Or perhaps use one of your tricky movement cards to set a competing investigator back in their own attempt?
Great family fun!
