For the second year in a row, the Future of Freedom Foundation hosted "Restoring the Republic: Foreign Policy and Civil Liberties." These talks from June of 2008 showcase leaders from the libertarian, conservative, and liberal movements concerning civil liberties and foreign policy.
For the past several decades, U.S. foreign policy has included support of dictatorial regimes, brutal sanctions and embargoes, invasions and occupations, terrorist "blowback" against the United States, severe assaults on civil liberties and the Bill of Rights, suspension of habeas corpus, torture and "rendition" of detainees, indefinite detentions, and kangaroo military tribunals.
With the ever-growing debacle in Iraq, there was never a better time to come together to share ideas on restoring the limited-government, constitutional republic envisioned by our Founding Fathers. When you review our list of 21 speakers -- libertarians, liberals, and conservatives -- you will see that this one one fantastic intellectual experience that can be now be relived through this 11-volume series of DVDs.
David R. Henderson:
David R. Henderson is an associate professor of economics at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California and a Research Fellow with the Hoover Institution at Stanford University. From 1982 to 1984, he was the senior economist for health policy, and from 1983 to 1984 he was the senior economist for energy policy, with President Reagan's Council of Economic Advisers.
Laurence M. Vance:
Laurence M. Vance holds degrees in history, theology, accounting, and economics. The author of twelve books, he regularly contributes articles and book reviews to both secular and religious periodicals. Although his writing interests include such diverse topics as theology, biblical languages, English Bible history, economics, taxation, government spending and corruption, and the socialism and statism of conservative pundits and Republican politicians, he writes most often about the folly of Christian support for the state, its leaders, its military, and its wars. His latest work is a new and greatly expanded edition of Christianity and War and Other Essays Against the Warfare State. He is also an adjunct instructor in accounting at Pensacola Junior College in Pensacola, FL.
