Review

Praise for the Men of Mercy Series

"Lindsay Cross delivers high-powered action, alpha heroes and an exciting conclusion!"

- ELLE JAMES, New York Times and USA Today bestselling author

"My gawd how I cried at the beginning of this book! I felt the immense pain of grief that poor Rachel went through as she lost her husband and was heartbroken as she went through the funeral process. It was a real emotional beginning but thank goodness for a sexy man such as Ranger. I loved how much he cared about Rachel and how much he helped her get through her grief and embrace a new relationship." Marie's Tempting Reads

Resurrection River, the second book in the Men Of Mercy Series, was an okay read for me. I really expected to love it more then the first book, but one thing really ruined my enjoyment of reading this book. That would be the heroine Amy. Lord in heaven did she drive me crazy. The plot was good. Tons of suspense, and a plot twist that I never saw coming. A twist so big, I was truly shocked, and that doesn't happen much to me. I called my husband and was like OMG (I'm always telling him about the books I am reading) because I was so shocked I had to share it with someone. I loved the Hero Ranger. Absolutely adored him. Ranger was the sweetest, most understanding, romantic, strong, and sexy hero. He was like perfect!
I do wish there would have been a little more detail on Ranger and Amy's past relationship. The book says they dated in high school, but I feel like important parts of their relationship are missing from the book. That is just a small thing and I could totally over look that, but what I couldn't over look was my hate for Amy. OMG I'm gonna rant a little here..... Amy, she is one of those fictional characters that have me yelling at my kindle like a crazy person, cussing and threatening bodily harm . Amy had no backbone, none ,zero, zip, zilch, nada. She was a huge coward, and that is one of my biggest pet peeves (next to cheating) that is a total killjoy when I am reading. She let her ex mother n law Mavis (her husband Shane you find out is dead in book one) treat her like crap. Mavis tells her how she is the reason her son died, that she is a hussy, that her baby granddaughter isn't even really her son's because Amy such a hussy. OMG and she just takes it. Lets that woman walk all over her and treat her like trash(which she also calls her many times).

The heartrendingly beautiful story of a man's love, love that endures more than ever imagined.
The paralyzing sorrow, the numbing anguish of Rachel, when she battles to accept her husband's death, left me weeping. The hardship of the unknown future, sadness of life and dreams not to be fulfilled, worry about her baby, it is all so touching, pages filled with sadness.
Ranger is there, every step of the way, helping her, supporting her, caring for her. Until she asks him to go away. Something he can't do.
Ranger is not ashamed of his feelings for Rachel, he is willing to do anything for her. Nearly begging for her attention, for her love, fighting for a chance to prove to her, they were meant to be together. It is adorable agony, when Ranger fights for his love. Rachel, even after all the months of her husband's death, has the guilty feelings of moving on, something her mother-in-law loves to feed on.
But the feelings that sparked life in their teenage years, are now in full flame, and through guilt, and torment, their passion and love wins. Slowly they start to build a relationship again, from the ashes of their past.
Until twists in the plot changes everything again, tormenting them both.
This story is very different from the previous one, yet still achingly beautiful. The love Ranger and Rachel have for each other is strong and real, but the pressure from outside, the guilt, keeps them apart. The little family unit they form is lovely, the support they give to each other a delight.
But even though most of the story has focused on the poignant romance between Rachel and Ranger, there's still action in the tale. Action that is as brutal and raw as it can be. Halting fear and danger that will have you on the edge of the seat. The series has captured my mind, can't wait to read the next tale

Cross has brought us into the world of the Men of Mercy, a military group of Alpha men that do not disappoint. There is action, romance, comedy, suspense, that bad boy sexy thing only great authors can pull off in their writing, she does it! Is Ranger and Amy's story a fairytale romance, no, it's a real romance from the first chapter breaking my heart to the last chapter putting it back together!

There were a couple of elements to this story that could have produced a really good book. Unfortunately, they were overridden by by too many ridiculous and over the top plots and character behaviors. I wish I could enumerate them but that would divulge too much.

I have read books that centered around similar elements of this story, but that were executed much better.

Second installment in the series and the story of Ranger, Hunter's brother, whom we met in the previous book.

In the first installment of the series the team lost one of their brothers in arms. This installment started where Ranger went to inform Amy that her husband is missing in action, most probably dead. Well, I won't disclose anything more, as the title of this book is revealing enough! Just one little hint: Ranger has always been in love with Amy but when she got married to one of the team.....

Reading the first installment of the series, I criticized the lack of depth in the storyline. This second book surprised me very positively. The emotions and insecurities referring to Ranger and Amy were perfectly conveyed. I appreciated how smoothly the plot unraveled and how perfectly it created the ambience for Amy and Ranger. Yes, Amy had second thoughts regarding her relationship with Ranger, and yes, at certain points I had the impression that this might be a bit tiresome. On the other hand, I could relate to this indecisiveness, which was a success for the author, who so perfectly created the framework to accommodate this back and forth.

Absolutely loved this installment!
