I was having a hard time getting past the headache their constant back and forth was giving me. They were acting childish, not talking about their issues and assuming rather than communicating. It was a while before I finally began to feel for them. I stuck with the story and was glad I did because as it progressed, Kara was finally starting to grow on me and her attitude became stronger, forcing Carter to also mature, even though he was much older than she was.
The story was slow at the beginning but moved at a quicker pace after the first 20%. Once everything falls where it should, things go so smooth and that ending was my favorite part.
I can't even...
There's no question that I am a huge fan of Leddy Harper. She just had a way with words that really grabbed me and moved me. Her words always held so much meaning and emotions that always struck me right in the center of my heart. So suffice to say I love this woman so dearly and with her current work now she made me love her even more.
Not to be bias but Resuscitate Me is her best work to date. Don't get me wrong, I have loved her books, each held different meaning and each has a special place in my heart and admittedly I am a glutton for punsishment with her every release. I haven't had a book from her that I am not accompanied by Kleenex and wine. That is the usual case but with her new release I tell you this, she upped her game and delivered us a story you wanted to stop reading, hate so much and just throw your reader but then made you want to hug her and kiss her and then love her outrightly. Yes, she astound me with her writing ability in her new work. She gets better and better but this woman is evil in her own ways because the moment I finished reading the book, I realized, she just played my emotions and Kleenex? Yes I needed that one and a clear head because this book tested my patience and emotions but in a good way. And who would have thought, Leddy has a dirty mind behind that angelic and innocent face of her's? *Fanning
Yes, the book is so much I never expected it to be. It's so different from all her other works. Where we usually pegged her books to be so emotional yet romantic, Resuscitate Me is loaded with flirtiness, sexiness, alpha male hotness and so much more. First few pages and you know you're in for a great ride. I was so drawn into the story and I was lost with the words I devoured from start to finish. The character portrayal was good. I love that the heroine is not some damsel and distress but someone strong and determine to fight for what she wants. The hero, my God this man is nothing but pure alpha plus a jerk rolled into one. He was no prince but he's so more than that. In as much as I have loved this character I really wanted to nut punch him and strangle him but then kiss him. Don't get me started with the sexual chemistry because it was scorching and downright hot. It will tease you and leave you with warm flushes.
But both tested my patience with their push and pull and their bickering. I am so mad with their stubborness I wanted to smack both of them. But then, it's their flaws that keeps me going in the story. It's their frustrating ways that leads me to finish this beautiful book. Because in reality nobody's perfect and it's their flaws that made this story relatable and perfectly imperfect. But what I wasn't prepared for is the fact that the book is a definition of "expect the unexpected". Carter and Kara's journey was never easy. The supposed summer of fun, fling and hot sex turned out to be so complicated when feelings got involved. Carter is right, friends with benefits always end up with a broken heart. So why put a label?WhY get feelings involved? Why not just enjoy the company? But then sometimes fate just wanted to itervene. So from summer fling, they went to being in love. But their's is never easy. It wasn't rainbows and unicorns. And that twist in the story heightened the tension but made me understand why Carter is what he seems to be. That it's more than just him being jerk. That it's more than just the trust issues ansd commitment. This made me even want to root for them and cheer them on. When I get to finish the book it's definitely true, “Love isn’t logical. It doesn’t follow a set of rules or fit inside guidelines. The universal symbol is a heart for a reason. A heart is resilient. You can eliminate some of the electrical currents running through it, segregate and cauterize veins, reroute the electrical currents, and yet it keeps beating. Where’s the logic in that?”
I had it all.
I had the dreams, the hopes, and the desires.
And Carter had given them to me.
He decimated me.
He loved me.
But above all, he resuscitated me.
