I hope this book gets out and touches the very soul of each individual that reads it as it did me. I just can not express what a joy it was for me to read every word of it. I plan on re-reading it because I love the personal feeling it gave me to have Jesus stand right in front of me and say the very things he said to Susan.

Fabulous book! Beautifully written, and written in a way we can all identify with and understand. I agree with another reviewer that everyone should read this book! If you've ever wondered why things happen the way they do, this is the best book I've ever read that explains things in the Bible, and gives examples. I felt so much better after reading, and have already started to re-read. It also gives us the ability to see things in an entirely different perspective. The things we complain about (teenagers....) are gifts! Totally recommend, and hope she continues to write! I will probably buy copies of this one to hand out to friends.

This is such a wonderful story of a mother who takes a break from her busy life to slow down and reflect at a women's weekend retreat. All of us have felt that internal conflict of wanting to do what's best for our family but losing some of what we need in the process. How do we regain that without feeling selfish? This book helps to remind us of how we are loved, unconditionally, and how we can be strong for our families by being strong in our faith. Read this book if you need "a lift" (as my precious Mom always says) in your life as a parent. Highly recommended.

Like most moms, Susan has spent all her time and energy on her family and now she's feeling run-down and put-upon and wonders if there is more to "Susan" than just "Mom" and "wife", so she attends a women's retreat held at her favorite beach. She gets great advice from the retreat leader and from the other attendees, but her greatest boost comes from talking to Jesus on the beach. No, really. Jesus is on the beach. This book could so easily have become overbearing and preachy. I don't like preachy fiction. If I'm in that mindset, I'll read the Bible or a devotional. Somehow, although probably half the book is conversations with Jesus, Fillion managed to make it not preachy. Instead, Retreat to Folly is a sweet inspirational book that will strike a chord with women everywhere.

I received this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed reading this book about a mother overwhelmed with normal household duties and raising children. She finds little or no time for herself but goes off on a retreat by a beach. She eventually learns how to tackle her problems and enjoy the life God planned for her. The story is unbelievable but makes one actually think about ways to control your life a bit better. I would definitely like to read more from this author..

I couldn't put down this book. It is very heart spoken and deals with emotions and feelings each of us feel in our daily lives. It is written in a richly entertaining fiction that reminds me a great deal of "The Shack". Soul searching and life meaning. I enjoyed this book and give hands down a 10 to Missy Fillion!

I was expecting this work of fiction to be a story with more "show" and less "tell." The "story" was minimal, and that's being generous. I love Christian fiction, and I understand why this was labelled as fiction, but there wasn't a story line, only teaching and preaching by the retreat director and by Jesus, and also thoughts by the main character. I usually pick up non-fiction when I want a list of do's and don't's. In a fiction, I expected to be shown how someone uses those things in their life. After reading 70% of the book, and getting only non-fiction sermons, I felt disappointed that there wasn't more to it than that.

If Jesus appeared to us once or ten or hundreds of times would it be enough? Are we ever satisfied with our lives or are we always looking for more love, happiness or perfection in ourselves or others? On a retreat of rest and renewal Susan, a young mother of three small children, seeks answers, renewal and strength for her tired body and spirit. When Jesus actually appears to her over a course of three days the things she learns about herself and God's love are life changing. When it is time to go back to her family she is caught between her deep love and longing for her family and wanting Jesus to appear to her again. But can she forgive herself and others, let go of the past and live in the present, even when it is not perfect ? Will she take joy in knowing that Jesus shares our pain and our happiness even when we cannot see him? Her journey is painful, beautiful and never ends if he abides in us and we in him. Thank you Missy Fillion for this reminder.
