Retreat To Me transports you back in time to a world where Cassidy struggles to cope with the loss of her true love to the war. She goes back to the place where they met to write their story, and ultimately put an end to her misery. But what happens at Carter Ridge will change her life forever, proving that love can save even the most lost souls.
This is a second chance story. The two have a chance to have true, lasting love. They can heal each other and two broken people can come together happy and whole. But it won't be easy. It will take bravery and there are outside complications.
Christina Benjamin has written a beautiful, moving story. The characters are so broken, there is so much pain, but also fragile love and hope. And then more. It's a lovely, satisfying read.
It's set in the 1940's and each chapter alternates between Cassidy and Thomas. Now these are not written in first person but it's good to see each character's perspective.
Cassidy is trying to write her memoir in a lakeside cottage when suddenly Thomas turned up. Thomas has stepped in his friend Gene's place to record a daily music slot for a radio station. Things were tense between Cassidy and Thomas right from the start, with neither of them expecting anyone else at the cottage.
It turned quite comedic when Cassidy tried her best to get Thomas to leave her alone, and gradually an attraction grew between them. I really love the way the author wrote this book, with snippets of poetry woven in, it's really beautifully written.
This book can be read as a standalone and it has a happy-ever-after ending :)

Christina Benjamin writes a compelling and passionate story, although there is a deep sadness to the story there is also great happiness and joy, and shows us that we shouldn’t take advantage of what life offers us. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.
