I got this product specifically to use with the Sega Fusion emulator, version 3.64c, on my PC with Windows 7 64 bit edition and it works flawlessly. Installation was automatic, I plugged in the adapter into a USB port and it automatically found and installed the driver (note: this will happen for each USB port you plug it into). I then used both an original and after market controller (Retro-Bit) to use with the emulator and plugged into the adapter.

I don't remember if I "had" to do this but I have set up a number of other controllers through my PC that I just do this automatically, but I also calibrated my controller. I clicked Start on my PC, went to Devices and Printers, right clicked on GENESIS Controller USB, clicked Game controller settings, selected one of the two GENESIS controller USB selections (plugging into 1 on the adapter will be the top selection), then clicked properties. Here in the Test tab you will be able to click buttons and move the controller around to see it is interacting with the PC. Then I clicked the Settings tab and finally calibrate, which will take you through a simple wizard to complete controller calibration.

Finally in Fusion, I clicked Options, Set Config..., clicked the Controllers tab, under Port 1 for the Genesis controllers section I chose 6 Btn Pad, and then GENESIS Controller USB (the one you use will again correspond with the number you plugged the controller into the adapter, top for 1, bottom for 2) for the Use section. Then clicked Define and followed the instructions on the bottom and that was it!

From there it worked perfectly and the actual adapter itself is very simple, well built and solid. This product was worth every penny, simply to enjoy playing these awesome games with a real controller again!

Purchased this product for Linux-based emulation, but Linux isn't reading left or up from the d-pad on either my Sega brand controller or the cheap knock-off version.

Product works fine on emulators that I run off of Windows with either controller. All things considered, we're going with 3stars... It is functional, just doesn't serve my purpose.

Got this for my raspberry pi RetroPie build. The Up and Left directions don't work in Raspbian by default. So far the only potential fix I can find is recompiling my kernel, which takes HOURS to do. The problem is with the cable itself, in that it doesn't use the HID standards and thus things that adhere to those standards can't read it. If you get one of these to use with Linux, be prepared for some hardships.

For those that don't know, the PS3 can accept a lot of legacy game system's controllers with the proper adapter. However, the issue you'll run into is which buttons correspond to the ones on the DualShock 3. It's difficult finding information online as to how well these types of adapters work with the PS3, so I thought I'd provide my review of this one. (Note: the mapping mentioned below may be exclusive to this adapter.)

Upon plugging in the adapter and starting up the PS3, it recognized it immediately and mapped both adapter plugs to player 1 and 2 (as labeled on the adapter). Hitting the Playstation button on a DualShock 3 will make the system recognize it as player 3, provided you plug in the adapter prior to starting up the console..

Here is the button mapping for a Genesis 3-button controller:

A = Square
B = X
C = Circle
Start = L2

I tested it with Sonic Ultimate Genesis Collection, since that seemed like a novel idea. All of the buttons within this game can pretty much be re-mapped with the exception of the Start button. This is the only downside with using the adapter, since most of these old games use the Start button to accept menu entries (i.e. "Press Start"). There are work-arounds for this, since you can re-map which controller is player 1, 2, etc. from the XMB. For example, you could switch the DualShock 3 to player 1 to begin a game, and then switch it back to player 3 once the game begins. This isn't ideal, but it does work.

I also tested it with The Simpsons Arcade game from the PSN. The only thing I couldn't do was pause the game, but you can use your DualShock 3 for that. You're able to begin the game by pressing the B button (PS3's X).

All in all, it worked better than I thought it would. The mapping of the Start button is unfortunate, but the adapter is still usable even with this shortcoming. It's a great way to add extra controllers for legacy games that don't require a lot of buttons.

I couldn't find much information about non-standard controller compatibility with this adapter, so I'll just let you all know.

This does work with regular Atari 2600 controllers! and It sort of works with 7800 controllers (the right button does not register). Both the 2600's and 7800's buttons register as the Genesis B button.
It will not work with paddles or driving controllers.
The only turbo controller I have is a "High Frequency" 3 button. It does not register the A or B buttons regardless of turbo being on or off, and switching turbo on will make Start and C stop working.
EDIT: My "High Frequency" 3 Button controller has stopped working, and it may be related to this adapter. I'd probably caution against Turbo controllers - or at least 3rd party ones.

Standard 3 button and 6 button controllers work beautifully!
Every game Ive tried accepts it like a regular "DirectInput" controller (The Windows standard before Xinput).
I highly recommend if you wanna play old Genesis/Atari games, or you just love the feel of the Genesis controller.
