Adapter that does NOT do it all...

This is not what I expected. The product and (extremely limited) description make this sound like a direct adapter which would allow you to play NES games on your SNES console. Not even close.

The only reason your SNES is involved is to supply power and controllers. The adapter requires it's own AV output which is very clunky. The audio was over amplified and tinny. The video was fine. The tower you create with the cartridge port and NES game on top of that seems very unstable. I accidentally nudged the table when I grabbed a controller and the game cartridge moved just a little bit. It froze everything and I had to start over.

Do yourself a favor and buy a NES or NES clone if you want to play NES games. Much better option in my opinion.

This device operates exceptionally well, and when coupled to an SNES, is exactly like having an NES console! I have the NES-001 aka the "toaster" model, and NES-101 top-loader model, as well as the Retron 1 - which, incidentally, is a very good, bargain-priced unit; However, at this price, I simply could not resist adding still another back-up, one that can utilize the many NES games in my library. This adapter will enable you to take advantage of the superior performance capabilities of the SNS-001 original or the SNS-101 aka the "Mini" which makes it rather convenient to switch between the differing NES/SNES game formats. All in all, this item is a capably handy addition, that will certainly complement any collection of Nintendo accessories. Bonus: this product can be utilized in conjunction with a Nakitek Game Saver Plus to "save" many NES games too!

Keep this product, your games and system clean with contact cleaner

At first, several of my games did not work with this. I decided to take it apart and clean the SNES circuit board contacts with contact cleaner and got alot of filth from manufacturing off of there. After seeing that, i put it back together(important step) and cleaned the NES side with contact cleaner on a credit card and t-shirt(being very careful to keep the t-shirt piece tight). Since then all my games work on the RetroPort and have bought others with 100% success so far. Some need to be pulled out and reseated sometimes but its less hassle than the NES was. It does what is claimed and the sound issue and tight fit do not bother me. Also, it appears to be able to fit into a super famicom system as an added bonus. Hope this helps you with your purchase.

Works great on most games, Battletoads won't play through level two, but other than that I haven't found any other games that fail to work. It uses its own audio/video cables, but the SNES still uses its power cable and controller. It grips the cartridges really tight and care should be taken when removing and inserting games.

Overall for the price it is a great space and time saver, it's not perfect but does just what I need it to. I am even considering the genesis on SNES version.

Works great! I own two NES consoles and one SNES. I have a couple carts that just will not play in the NES consoles but they work great in the SNES using this adapter. At first I thought the colors were way off but I switched tv sets and was surprised to see real good colors. The sound breaks up a bit but not too bad for my ears. I guess there are a couple different reasons for needing this adapter, but for me personally I just wanted one. I would definitely recommend this. The Contra code works too!

I had low expectations for this, to be honest, but it really does work. I tried it for the first time today, and it played Spy Hunter and Ducktales 2 with perfect picture and sound quality. I did have to make sure the cartridge and adapter were both properly in place, and I would advise being gentle when inserting and removing the NES cartridge, but I like it. We will see if it has staying power, but so far, it at least gave me playing power. I recommend it if you don't have an NES.

This little gem is wonderful! I've had so much trouble getting my NESs to work but my SNESs seem to never have a problem. I'm finally able to play Robin Hood and the Adventures of Link via my SNES. It's weird that it uses a separate set of AV cables that connect to the cartridge thingy but seems to work very well. I might get one of these for my retro gaming friend for Christmas. I have not encountered a problem with any of the games that I have tried with it yet.

Works really well but my only pet peeve about it is the sound on some games is very distorted and fuzzy, Super Mario Bros. 3 is one of those games! But the best part is the video is very crisp and colorful and I'm very pleased it doesn't crash the game. The other part that troubles me is one of the best games ever Castlevania 3 doesn't work on the machine. I have two unlicensed games for my NES and they both work beautifully. So I'm very happy with this just wish the sound was a little better!

El adaptador funciona, solo tiene el detalle del soporte del cassette de NES, ya que es muy facil que se mueva por su propio peso y el juego se congele o se pierda la imagen. También es cosa de no desesperarse, ya que tiene el mismo detalle que la propia consola del NES que batalla un poco con la conexion del cassette. Ocupa estar limpio y en la posición correcta. Este adaptador trae un cable de audio y video que es el que se conecta del adaptador al TV, por lo que no funcionaría para jugar en consolas portatiles como el Supaboy, a menos que se enchufe a un televisor.

No sé si el que yo compré está defectuoso de fábrica, o es problema del diseño de los cartuchos españoles, y es que los cartuchos cuesta muchísimo extraerlos, hasta el punto que da la sensación de que se va a romper el cartucho o el adaptador este. El emulador es fantástico, le da mil vueltas a cualquier emulador de PC, pero no merece la pena el esfuerzo que hay que hacer cada vez que quiero cambiar de juego y el riesgo de romper mis valiosos cartuchos por un rato de vicio. Me molesta porque en los vídeos de internet he visto que los extraen con mucha más facilidad, algunos con una sola mano, y los cartuchos parecen ser exactamente iguales que los míos.

Ma console NES ne fonctionnait plus alors j'ai trouvé ça et ça marche bien sauf qu'il n'était pas expliqué avec l'appareil qu'il faut brancher le cable fourni d'un coté sur l'adaptateur et les 3 prises jack (vidéo, son gauche et son droit) sur la télévision, ça remplace l'ancienne sortie péritel et donc les télé anciennes avec qu'une sortie péritel ne sont pas compatibles. Très utile si l'on possède une super nintendo mais une vieille NES qui ne va plus, j'avais essayé de la réparer comme indiqué dans des tutoriels sur internet mais ça n'a pas marché.
