Customers are unhappy with the d-pad's responsiveness. They say it's very sensitive, causes mistakes, and is finicky. The directional pad is calibrated poorly, so pressing up will move up/left or up/right. It takes a lot of pressing to get movement to register. - Reviewed in the United States on June 8, 2014First off, this is not the controller in the picture, but that being said it actually works better than my retrolink nes controller. It seems like it's just the luck of the draw with these controllers. I don't know the validity of the other reviews, but based on the reviews i was worried i had bought a decorative hunk of plastic so i quickly bought a retrolink. they ended up coming at the same time. I tried out the retrolink first and found it very unresponsive the with a and b buttons. I thought for sure the tomee would be worse, but i plugged it in a gave it a try. i think all i had to do was adjust the dead zone on the d-pad in the emulator and it's been working great. The only issue I've found is that i have to distinguish the direction on the d-pad a bit more than you'd naturally expect. could be my hands haven't gotten too big for my childhood controller. I apologize if this review sounds a bit repetitive and a bit of a ramble, but this is a good controller that as far as i can tell is getting a bad wrap. From what I've read you might still get a dud, but I'm only going on my experience.
the tldr: WORKS FOR ME, RETROLINK NOT SO MUCH
- Reviewed in the United States on August 20, 2010Everything worked well once I got it configured. I had to configure the controller to the game emulator which wasn't a big deal but when I went to the controller info where it tells you what the button numbers are, I had to use one number less. For example, the A and B button were marked 1 and 2 on the controller screen itself. You push the button and the button number lights up on the controller screen. When I set it up with my emulator and tried those numbers the buttons didn't work right. Through trial and error I found the correct corresponding numbers for the buttons and got it to work. The down on the plus pad needs a little more than normal pressure to work everytime. Now that it is configured everything is good and game play is pretty sweet. The old classic games bring back some memories. It has been years and sometimes I feel like I picked right up from yesterday. Worth the small price it cost to not have to use a keyboard.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 1, 2012I purchased this controller, and after doing so, read some reviews, and was a little worried due to the negative responses people were giving regarding that it was a flimsy Tomee controller, vs the much saught after retrolink. Well, my controller arrived in the post about an hour ago, and I was surprised, and quite relieved to find out it was infact a retro-link controller. I guess it's luck of the draw with this, some people get the retrolink, some people get the tomee. I was quite satisfied with mine, the start and select buttons on the retrolink are in fact rubber, not plastic like the tomee. I played with it for maybe a half hour, and over all, was very satisfied with it! perfect response time, and the controller feels very nice in the hand. All the buttons work well. The only downside, it is significantly lighter than an original NES controller, so you do feel as though you have to be a bit more careful with it than you typically would be, but that aside, I look forward to many hours of classic gaming, the way it was meant to be enjoyed!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 23, 2013If you're looking for a true-to-form NES controller that handles like a dream, I'd recommend NOT picking this one up.
For starters, it isn't packaged well at all. It comes in the box shown on the page, but the controller itself is just wrapped up in a clear bag and thrown into the box. This opens the possibility for the controller to be broken the second you get it.
When I got mine, It immediately looked cheaply made. The outside of the controller lacks the matte finish of the original NES controllers. There were also no rubber buttons for start and select and are just made out of the hard plastic that the regular buttons are made out of. However, the casing itself felt pretty sturdy and the cord felt solid enough. So I figured it'd at least control well.
That hope ended once I got to the programming screen on my emulator. I discovered the D-pad was over sensitive to the left and right buttons and were often triggered if you press either up or down, making it almost impossible to just program the button layout.
Playing games with it? Don't even try. I suppose if you just need to control left or right, you'd be fine. But for most games, they'll need you to press the up and down buttons at some point.
Overall, This was a terrible shopping experience. I'd send the controller back, but it's not even worth the effort to ship it.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 6, 2011The controller does work, but the D-pad is way too sensitive. For example: If you press up and aren't EXACTLY 100% dead center on up, it will register as up and right. It might not sound like a big deal, but it makes many games nearly unplayable, and if you're familiar with nes games this is unacceptable. I purchased this for just under 15 dollars after shipping . . . I knew the risks (others said it wasn't up to par). I would probably say I value this controller at about 3 bucks. Honestly, don't buy this. You should get an official nes controller and do the soldering job (which isn't hard from what I've seen on youtube) to convert it to usb. Even though it doesn't bother me or matter too much, the start/select buttons were plastic and the controller is VERY light weight and doesn't seem very durable.

Richard W RogersReviewed in Canada on March 25, 20155.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Product
Love this device, and you can't beat the price. It works on my PC right away using JNES, works on my Minix Neo 8H with some config, works on my Sony Xperia Tablet Z with John NES. Going to try it out with my Raspberry PI this weekend. Only bad is that the directional pad is pretty sensitive and takes a little getting use to. People who are complaining are expecting brand name quality at dollar store prices. The bottom line is that it works, it's affordable, and it arrived ahead of schedule.

Eneko CamareroReviewed in Spain on September 20, 20165.0 out of 5 stars Muy buen mando y de calidad
