You can also plug in the original NES controllers to this, which is awesome. (The other model that takes both the NES and SNES cartridges wont take the original controller, but this one will.) I played with an original NES controller and it worked with no problems. I was hesitant on buying this because other reviews said the sound or colors were slightly different then if played on the original NES. However, I did not notice any difference at all with the game, and I tend to notice things like that more then most. The only thing i DID notice was a buzzing / static sound at the startup of the game, and sometimes when Mario is moving on to the next level, but this didn't bother me.
Over all, This little machine is one of the best purchases I have made in my adult life. My one and only complaint is I wish it were made of sturdier materials. Its made from really thin flimsy plastic, and it seems rather delicate. I was a little nervous when I was plugging in the cables, it seems like you could punch right through the plastic if you use too much force. The console is tiny, and it weighs next to nothing. If you drop it or bang it around, you will probably break it. But if you treat it with care, it works very well. I'm definitely gonna be buying more games for this, and will probably end up buying the later model that can also take SNES cartridges.
1) The power adapter is WAY too short. I would say it's only about 3-4 feet if that.
2) Force is required. Force is required to do just about anything with this console. Pulling games out is really tough, and no little kid would be able to do it. Also, sometimes the thing refuses to turn on, I dunno if thats because the adaptor isn't plugged in well or the overall design of it, but after a few tries it works just fine.
The LED light that lets you know if the power is on doesn't work on my unit, but this has no affect on the gameplay so I don't care. The controllers feel cheap but are actually pretty good, some of the best controllers ive seen for a clone console. You can use original NES controllers and even the Zapper.
Emulation is about 90-95% accurate. Super Mario Bros nearly sounds identical to its orignal release, with only a few things sounding an octave or so out of key. Some games will not work for this clone console, the biggest one being Castlevania III, but I have heard reports of it working on some units. I would not worry about having issues with games though, out of all the NES games I think its only 6-10 that don't work.
Overall I love this thing, its a great gift for gamers on a budget, for a young kid wanting to see what daddy played, or just about anybody.
I thought it might have been my games but when it did the same to the others and that plastic smell was filling the room, I concluded it had to be the console. My son is trying to play Super Mario 3 as I write and it is messing up. I've had this console for a total of 2, yes, 2 days! I am very, very disappointed but hey, you get what you pay for and I have learned a huge lesson.
If you are debating on whether to buy this product or spare 20 more bucks for the original NES, save yourself the guilt of seeing your child(ren) disappointed when it messes up or your own frustrations of trying to play those great games of old!
