With the cartridge attached by a magnet, I don't know if I'm comfortable storing my sd cards in a small space being held by.... a magnet. I'll just store them somewhere else. Overall it's not a bad product as it remains the best raspberry pi case currently on the market but, I think it would have been better if retroflag just sold the cartridge separately, like their controllers.
Other minor issues: The two front screws are hidden under the feet pads making it annoying to take apart. The USB/Ethernet cover isn't hinged and will likely to get lost.
All said, I do like the case. It looks the part and the SD storage cartridge is a nice touch. If RetroFlag come out with a new revision, I'll likely buy that too.
did not stay on my collection for more than a few hours. disappointing
I love the soft off and reset features. I also really appreciate the generous internal layout!
If I were to change anything, it’d be a sturdier solution for closing the case than metal screws into plastic posts. I’d also appreciate compatibility for larger fans and more space between slats at the bottom for air intake. I haven’t had any issues with heat but I like keeping my hardware as cool as it can possibly be.
I did some pretty significant modding and got a 40mm noctua fan to fit in the case for quieter airflow.
I love this thing!
The ports all line up exceptionally well. The cartridge completes the look of this case. It's a shame they don't sell them separately. I feel bad for those who don't have it. When they make a case for the Raspberry Pi 4...I'd like to get it. With how well this is build, the power/reset switches I also now want the GPi Case and their Genesis case. I have two of their RetroFlag SNES controllers. It's near perfect. Hitting down, the character sometimes starts to move to the right or left if I'm press on an angle. This gets me killed when I'm trying to duck in Contra but end up running towards the bullets. This rarely happens but is an issue. Not sure if the original SNES controllers are like that? When I first got the controllers, they even smelled like SNES controllers. Unfortunately they smell is now gone.
I do have a fan installed. But I didn't hook it up to the 5v connector they have on the board with the power/reset switches. I opted to connected it to the raspberry pi directly using only 3v. This way the fan runs slower, and thus quieter. Numerous reviewers said you don't need a fan, just the heat sinks with this case. I haven't tested it without the fan running on 3v so I don't know.
I highly recommend this case, their controllers. They make top notch products. They are my favorite company making retro products. I told many people about them, and will continue to do so.
