Product Description
Unholy Night: The Darkness Hunter is a one-on-one SNES 2D fighting game developed by a team of ex-SNK staffers who had previously worked on the Samurai Showdown and The King of Fighters series. The game story revolves around a group of monster hunters who have dedicated their lives to exterminating vampires, werewolves, and other creatures of the night. Each unique fighter has eight special moves for the player to master as well as super moves that makes use of a three-level meter. When the fighter's health is low, he/she gains bonuses similar to desperation moves from older arcade fighting games.

Game crashes are entirely unacceptable. This is a game ROM permanently placed in a physical cartridge, not some slapdash download game that can be updated. Unfortunately this means the game will crash forever. Fortunately for me, I probably will never play this again.
PROS: It has great graphics, sound, and controls. It's a decent oldschool fighter that brings the SNES back into the limelight and I'm hoping this will lead the way for more new releases for the SNES for loyal retrogamers.
CONS:1.It does have some hangups on my Retrobit Retroduo so be aware that the compatibility may be suprisingly shaky with the beloved hardware clone that boasts outstanding compatibility.
2. The translation job is bad, it's worse than broken English it's fractured. It's so bad it's comical.
3. The music could have been way better, the backgrounds could have been more dynamic, this did not take full advantage of the SNES console and there is no excuse for this in 2017 especially considering the devs behind it. The game is not awful but it is not outstanding. In summation, completely mediocre.

It's not bad but not great. It plays well enough, wonderful packaging, graphics actually look pretty good as well. The music gets really old after the third time you hear the loop and with only 6 characters you're a little limited.
Price is a bit steep for what you get, but for what it's worth you get a functioning game with nice throwback packaging and a neat little curio for the collection.
I wish Amazon would do a better job of packaging games, as I had to get the game replaced twice before I got one without a smashed-up box. Thanks, Amazon!

For starters, let's talk about the packaging and cart. The box is a little too glossy, and I l know that there are probably legal reasons, but the 'SNES CONSOLE' logo looks and feels cheap. The cart is a cool see-through smoke, but I'm really puzzled as to why it's in a Super Famicom style shell when the packaging is inspired by the US look.
The game itself, in stills, really comes off as impressive. The sprites are well animated for a small time release, but it ends here. The game is very choppy, the framerate is horrible, and the controls are stiff.
The music is fine, but not very memorable. It may have grown on me had I not had enough of the game after a solid of hour of trying to force myself to love it.
The SNES is home to some really classic fighters. Street Fighter II, Fatal Fury Special, Killer Instinct, and even hidden gems like Ranma 1/2 and Power Moves. This is the bottom of the barrel SNES fighters like Tuff E Nuff and Doomsday Warriors play better than this. Don't be fooled. This is a game that needed another few years and some quality control.
Again, I can't state this enough...I wanted to love it...but it's just not good.
