I'm a very sweaty person. I start to perspire from my knees, shoulders or anywhere that you usually don't think to say "my ____ are/is sweating". Due do this my yoga is always very slippery, even if it's not even hot yoga. On to my pros and cons.
Pros:
- looks and feels durable
- thick (no knee padding needed)
- comfortable
- non-slippery
- long
- rich color (I got the purple)
- stays put (heavyweight)
Cons:
- acrid and horrible smell brand new
- heavyweight (not super great for "on-the-go")
- lint/crumb magnet
- sweat imprints get left behind on the mat
Overall the pros outweigh the cons for me because, like I mentioned, I'm a very sweaty person so not slipping and sliding around my yoga mat is imperative for me. I love that I can do any pose and not need a blankie or towel to rest me knee/s because the floor is so hard.
I don't think this is THE mat to take on the go, I bought it to practice at home mostly due to this quarantine but I love it so much that I might lug all 7lbs of it to a yoga class after this is all over.
Yes, the mat REEKS out of the box. When I smell it I kind of think of fish or something like that. I live in a one bedroom apartment so "airing it out" outside it not an option for me. I've been spraying it down with my essential oil mat spray and the smell has dissipated some which is great.
I would buy this again even if I have to spray it down with disinfectant, essential oils, and wipe it down with antibacterial wipes.
UPDATE 4/5/20: The smell comes from the bottom of the mat. The smell goes away if you leave the mat rolled out on your floor but if you roll it up the smell comes back again with a vengeance once you roll it out again. Just thought I would share this info for those of you that are having trouble getting the smell out. I bet if you were able to air it out outside with the sun hitting the underside of it it would make it go away that much faster. I don't have that luxury because of my apartment situation so it's just rolled out on my living room floor forever 🤷🏻♀️
EDIT 7/6/20: Smell is completely gone now. Keep in mind that I disinfect and essential oil my mat after every use. There isn't even a hint of the fishy weird smell anymore. Smell seems to go away after about 4 months of constant indoor use. I was never able to let the sun do its' magic 😔

Smells funny, but I like the product

So I actually bought this to use for a photoshoot, but I also have used it personally as well. I like the warm neutral color, but it does show dirt really easily. And like other reviews, you'll be able to see sweat on the mat. I don't do intense enough poses to start sweating, but I did use a wet rag to clean a dirt spot off the mat and the water soaked right into the mat. It did dry out and the spot faded luckily. The texture has a good grip but it's also pretty slick at the same time. I can imagine if you're doing hot yoga or pilates and sweating a lot, it might become slippery. It also has a funky smell but it's not too bad. Mostly just smells like a strong rubber. Overall, for the price, it seems like a decent mat. I wasn't expecting it to feel the way it did for the price I paid.
