While the book is targeted for grades K through 5, there are only a few illustrations which are small and contain little detail. Younger children will have difficulty focusing on eight chapters of the text. I believe the book is better suited for readers in the seven to eleven year age audience. Middle-grade reluctant readers will find the vocabulary just challenging enough. This book could also serve as an introduction to Las Vegas tourist sites for families considering bringing children there on vacation.
The journey for the birds began, and since night had fallen, the flock decided to watch the sun rise over the breathtaking sight of a lake, located between Hoover Dam and Las Vegas. Hershey's family also decided to take a break from all the driving, and rested at the gorgeous Lake Mead, which was the same lake that the flock of birds were enjoying.
Hershey and Nomi were sitting on top of a picnic table, when Hershey caught glimpse of a group of birds circling the lake, realizing it was the same flock of birds he tried to attack once before, but was unsuccessful. As Hershey jumped on Josie, seeking vengeance from failure in the past, his owners pulled him away, freeing both of the little Sparrows and he was placed in the cat carrier once again.
The flock of birds enjoyed their vacation, then flew back to San Diego, so that Jill can have quality time with her children. Hershey and his owners finally arrived at their new home in Las Vegas, where Hershey met two other cats he never saw before. Who were they, and what news did Hershey receive?
Award-Winning author, D.C. Rush delivers another fun-filled adventure in the 'Robby's Quest' series. This exciting adventure will teach children that bullying is wrong, that friendship is a gift, and that the greatest risk in life is not taking one, as we face many challenges in this world. Inspiring from beginning to end with inviting, colorful illustrations. "ROBBY'S QUEST: Return Of The Cat" is funny, encouraging, and educational. Highly recommended to teachers, parents, and child-care providers.
The writing is age appropriate, though it, too, is very bland. There is no hero, no villain, and very little plot. Birds "choose" whether they want to go someplace new, but there is no strong reason to go or stay. There is no sense of "migration" -- and no sense of "flock." There is no gateway for reality to enter -- but there is also very little fantasy. The dialog is poor. The writing is uninspired. This is one of those books that could have been great but didn't make it.
Very colourful and enjoyable as the other books in the series. This was even better than what I was expecting. Nice work.
