Jessica's career is nowhere. She left Eagle Cove after high school for college and a career in journalism and hasn't looked back. Her mother has married and divorced the same man, Jessica's father, three times, and moved no farther away than the mother-in-law suite at the other end of the house. Jessica is back in Eagle Cove for marriage number four. Her parents' strange marital history has had an impact on Jessica's view of life and love. But Jessica's dream is to be a hard news journalist, like her mentor, a female Viet Nam war correspondent. Her dream of being a journalist is slipping away, as the industry fades to blogging, free lance, wire services, and social media.
Greg has loved Jessica since she was younger and dating Greg's brother Harry. Will she finally see him? She thinks he's a small town loser who never left home, busses tables in his father's diner, and probably lives in a double wide with the hot piece of skirt he dated in high school
M.L. Buchman begins a heartwarming series about Eagle Cove with Jessica and Greg, but they're not the only residents we meet. Slowly throughout the book some of the other residents and former residents come into focus. Natya, a Portland web designer, Becky, a local brewer, Vince, a furniture maker, Dawn (Greg's hot piece from high school), the Judge, and the reclusive Tiffany. The lush landscape is so clearly described, the reader can almost smell the sea air, feel the rain.
The series is a departure from his two recent military series, but no less detailed. It's obvious that the author is familiar with the food industry (have you read the Chef mysteries yet? Angelo's Hearth series?), and the geography and climate of the Oregon coast. There is no violence, no mystery (other than "will they or won't they?" - better phrased as "how will they?"). Instead, we join the characters as they examine their lives and their dreams, and decide whether what they always thought they wanted is still enough.

Jessica Baxter is a big city girl. She ran from Eagle Cove many years ago to Chicago to pursue her career as a journalist. Lately, her career is in the toilet and she returns to Eagle Cove for her parents wedding, the fourth one! Her mom and dad keep divorcing and getting remarried and it drives Jessica crazy but she loves them and supports them no matter what.
RETURN TO EAGLE COVE:A SMALL TOWN OREGON ROMANCE reintroduces Jessica to Greg Slater. Jessica used to date his older brother and never thought of Greg as anything more than a pest. Well, she has a lot to learn about Greg on this trip home. Things that could change her mind about returning to Chicago, but she fights it every step of the way. I found myself cheering for Greg and hoping he could convince Jessica that Eagle Cove was right where she needed to be. He could have left home years ago to open his own restaurant but chose to stay and help his dad and continue to be a part of this wonderful community.
If you enjoy small town romance then you are going to love this story. I have never heard of M.L. Buchman before, but after reading RETURN TO EAGLE COVE: A SMALL TOWN OREGON ROMANCE I'm anxious to read more by him. His descriptions of the scenery in Eagle Cove are spot on and I felt like I was right there on the beach with Jessica and Greg and all the other residents of Eagle Cove. I wish Eagle Cove were a real place because I would pack my bags and run to it in a heartbeat. I'm excited to continue this series to see what happens with the rest of the residents of Eagle Cove and to see where Greg and Jessica ended up.
Her parents are getting married again; after divorcing.
Will read the rest of series.
