This was the 2nd part/ finale of the story started in "Northkill"... which I also loved! There is SIGNIFICANT "real history", suspense, and family love/ values here, along with some laughter and clean romance! The writing is awesome and detailed to allow the reader to visualize the story scenery and to feel the character emotions! At least a few incidents are somewhat scary and emotionally painful to read (and likely accurate given the times), so I would recommend this for teens and up. I love that this is based on real characters and events though, and I also appreciate the biblical aspects woven into the story. I STRONGLY recommend this SERIES to anyone interested in truly gripping historical fiction!
This is the fictional account, ( a sequel) of an Amish father and his two sons who were captured by Indians during the French and Indian War. The authors described their lives with the Indians in vivid and colorful detail. Based on the true story of the authors' ancestors, we come to understand that love and familial relationships cross racial and cultural bounds, and that Romans 8:28 applies in even the most horrific of circumstances. This is a must read for lovers of history and Christian fiction!
Sequels often disappoint. Not The Return. It follows the story of Northkill in a way that brings Christ-filled satisfaction and wonder at the mysterious but always loving ways of God. The story of the Hochstetler family is for everyone who loves God and history. I was sorry to reach the end.
Very interesting ! I've heard this story since I was a child and has always been a part of our family history so it was especially interesting to me. It is well written and in a way to keep your attention to the very end.
This is one of those books that I couldn't stop reading, yet I didn't want it to end. Of course, I know what all happens to everyone after the book ends because the characters are my ancestors. Bob Hostetler & J. M. Hochstetler have brought history to life!
