I like the small town 'feel' and the characters are memorable. A nice cozy read with good insights into forgiving
ourselves and trusting in God and those He places in our lives just at the right time.
“Return to Walhalla” is a wonderful Christian romance novel that is sure to appeal to a wide reading audience.
Penny Ruskin returns to Walhalla after several years to see to the funeral arrangements of her much loved grandmother. Although Penny has been home a few times over the last ten years or so, her visits have been few and far between. An unfortunate episode in her late teens continues to nag at her conscience and she has no desire to face her past. Penny is settled into a new life as a successful financial consultant in Columbia so the sooner her business is completed in Walhalla, the better off she will be. It is necessary to settle her grandmother’s estate and sell her stately Victorian house. Penny completes the paperwork and then returns to her old routine. However, shortly thereafter, Penny loses her job and is forced to return to Walhalla…
During her initial visit to Walhalla, Penny runs into Tommy McAllister who manages the family feed-and-seed store as well as his duties as vice-president at one of the local banks. He remembers Penny from their high school days and makes every effort to help her feel at home. He is definitely drawn to her but he doesn’t want to get his heart broken again by falling for a girl who dislikes small town life…
The story line is spiced up by Miss Betty who is quite the matchmaker as she plies her skill to bring Tommy and Penny together. The unfortunate plight of teenager Emma who lives next door to Penny, also adds to the plot of this well-written and captivating romance novel.
Penny and Tommy are definitely smitten with each other but Penny fears that when he learns about her past there will be little hope of a future for them…
Talented Author Laura Hodges Poole is definitely in her element in writing this lovely novel. Her own faith shines through every word she writes!
