"The writing is brisk and direct, finding a narrative line without imposing an unnatural plot."-Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books
From the Author
I live in Montana, near many wild places, and I've been fortunate to experiencd wolves "up close and personal," both while spending time observing and playing with a captive litter of wolf pups in northern Montana while writing my book, "Gray Wolf, Red Wolf," and taking long walks through meadows and forests with Koani, a wolf whose life was dedicated to teaching people the realities of being a wolf, and her "pack." My own dear canine friends, Elsa and Ninja, who were part wolf, showedme much about the talents and desires of these amazing creatures.
Since writing "Return of the Wolf," I have spent many happy hours behind a pair of binoculars or a telescope, watching wild wolves in Yellowstone as they played, rested, and interacted with one another. Those experiences led to my recent traditional book, "When the Wolves Returned: Restoring Nature's Balance in Yellowstone," published by Walker Books. As you can see, I find wolves to be amazing and fascinating creatures, and I hope "Return of the Wolf" helps my readers see them as caring, intelligent animals with an important place in the wild world.
