Just a few of things to know:
1. My pots and pans only fit with the top rack in the middle position, the lowest position was too low and the handles would hit the top rack and the highest position made the lids hit the top of the cabinet.
2. I had to put the largest lids in the last 2 racks on top. For some reason these 2 spots make the lids lay lower and they won't hit the top of the cabinet when I slide the rack out.
3. I should have put the front of the organizer a tiny further back before screwing it down. The handle on my large pot sticks out just a little too far and the door won't close completely. But not enough to notice (unless you are me)
I think that's about it. And as you can see, I had to arrange my pots and pans opposite of the product picture. This was because my large skillet has a front grabby handle thingy (I'm sure that's the technical term for it) and that made is impossible to close the doors, but it sits perfectly fine in the back of the rack because there is a space between the back of the rack and cabinet. YAY!
Do yourself a favor, if you are thinking about getting one of these, stop thinking and do it.
Works very well. I wish there were more of the separators though (which is the only reason for 4 stars versus 5 stars. I could use a couple more. You can see in the pictures of the pans in the back right having 3 pans in one, and the pans in front left being doubled up in each slot as well. Worth the purchase.
For the install, you can put most of it together on your workbench and only at the very need need to sit on your floor to get in your cabinets. I learned this after putting the first one together. Second time around did it much quicker. Also, these are fairly greasy for lubrication. Have some paper towels around as you're working on them.
When I bought my new house two years back, I decided I wanted a better semblance of organization in my kitchen, so I bought two of these two-tiered pull-outs along with a host of other Rev-A-Shelf organizing products. Had I written my review two years ago, I'd have given this five stars. It organized everything and opened and closed easily. Visitors were impressed.
About two months in, the first of the little black plastic clips that hold the dividers on to the pull-out racks broke. Could happen to anyone. Fortunately, I had a few unused spares, so no big deal. Still five stars.
About four months in, six clips were broken and I was starting to exhaust my ready spare supply. I was using several of these to hold heavy four cast iron pans, and that is a lot to ask of anything. Still, it was somewhat disconcerting that I couldn't find replacement clips in the stores. I drilled some aluminum channel to accommodate the dividers, and that solved my heavy pan problem. But four stars for my personal satisfaction.
About six months in, the black plastic clips holding my light duty, cheap set of teflon coated pans started to fail. I have the same or very similar set of red KitchenAid pans and lids pictured in the Rev-A-Shelf box. So clearly, these should not be taxing the black plastic clips. I had liberated a couple clips from the dividers I had modified to work with the aluminum channel to hold my heavy pans. I did a more detailed search for replacement clips, including searching the Rev-A-Shelf parts catalog, but turned up nothing. I was starting to get concerned.
A year in and I was down to just a few remaining plastic clips. They seemed to fail even under the lightest loads. This was ticking me off, and I was out of spare parts. Three stars.
A year and six months in, and I no longer had dividers. I had 'seperators' for piles of pans, trying to keep the drawer at least closeable, and salvaging as many unbroken plastic clips as I could to keep the drawer quasi-functional. Two stars.
This morning, I was contemplating the rack as I put away dishes. I have three functional dividers left out of two of these units. I have a sack of dividers made useless by failed plastic clips, just consuming space in my kitchen junk drawer. About the only pans standing upright are the ones retained by my aluminum channel. This thing is an expensive piece of junk that only marginally serves it's intended purpose. I get irritated every time I have to take something out or put something in.
It should be noted that my experience with the Rev-A-Shelf basket style pull-outs has been fantastic. I have four of those units, some under the heavy load of cast iron bakeware and ovens, all of which have performed exceptionally and without fail. And indeed, the solid metal parts of the two-tier pull-out organizer are still holding strong, sliding easily, and performing to expectation. It is a shame that the entire product is made nearly useless by some cheap plastic clips that I can't find replacement parts for. I find this unacceptable, and I wonder how many five-star ratings there will be for this product when other people start experiencing failures over time.
So Rev-A-Shelf, if you are reviewing feedback, please either redesign the cheap plastic clips on which the dividers attach to the basket, or make replacement parts more readily available. Do either of these things, and I will re-evaluate my rating. Otherwise, buyer beware: this particular model is not built to last.
