It started with Collide a bit slow but glad I started it, then Backdraft, followed by Riptide, then Shattered and finally Revealed. I read these 5 books almost in 2 days because I couldn't seem to put them down. Now disappointed to have to wait what happens after in "Broken Promises" which talks about Trystan's life after 3 years in the spot light. CAN'T WAIT!
H.M.Ward however has smartly managed to entwined Trystan's character in the Ferro brother series "Stripped" as it so happens that Trystan is Jonathan's best friend, it doesn't go into great detail of what's happened to him or has any mention of Mari, Mr. Tucker or their friends in that series but at least we get a glimpse at Trystan..... but for the looks of it he doesn't seem happy to have reached stardom.
The Secret Life of Trystan Scott is one of heartbreak, troubled & talented young people that have been damaged by the people that are supposed to love you most and unconditionally. Trystan's mother had left him behind when he was a just a young child with a father that has since neglected and physically abused him. Mari's parents are on the other hand mentally abusive, and simply focused on status on their careers and appearances failing to give Mari the only thing she needs... their acceptance and love.
Trystan and Mari however are each other's soul mates and finally declare their beautiful young love towards one another and are trying to find their way in the world despite their obstacles. This is a heartbreakingly beautiful story that ends with a potential promising future for both Trystan and Mari. Trystan gets a record deal and Mari gets to graduate H.S. a year early and heads to College to follow her dreams instead of her parents dreams in the medical field at Harvard.
But what happens to Trystan and Mari and their promises after years of fame and a long distance relationship? Guess we have to wait to find out in... Broken Promises.
A phrase from Trystan in this book rings so true to life.... "Cruelty and compassion shapes us into what we become, and nothing about that is ideal".
Second, if I didn't know there was another followup novel in the future, this ending would seriously piss me off. I feel like I invested in this serial (that is really kind of expensive for what you get), and we didn't really get much of a plot at all. It kind of felt like a soap opera where it keeps going and going, but at the end you didn't really get much. There was no resolution with either parents. You got a glimmer of their futures, but I didn't really believe it was going to all work out nice, so it felt like it just kind of ended abruptly. And thinking of it from the other perspective, KNOWING there is another book in the future (and seeing a glimpse of what it's supposed to be about and that they are separated) I will admit to being confused with the happy (ish) ending. So that was kind of disappointing too.
I guess I liked reading more Trystan and Mari together, and I enjoyed seeing the Seth and Katie bits, but all in all it was just kind of unsatisfying. Oooooo, I also really loved the Tucker stuff. I really hope Broken Promises delivers what was missing in this serial novella series. It was cute, but it could have been a lot shorter and with more meat.
I also loved the banter between Seth and Katie- cant wait to see what happens to them in the future.... Im so glad that I read this series, can not wait to see another glimpse of Trystan Scott in Stripped...
Sadly Mari wasn’t in this book as much as I wanted her to be. I was a bit disappointed with the ending because I don’t know what’s going to happen. Mari made a decision about high school and college which was a great choice in my personal opinion. He parents really sucked the big one and her father really shows his true ugly colors in this one. What a freaking a-hole. Ugh I could go on all day about what an ars hat her father is.
Here’s a taste of his butt holeyness: “I gave you everything and this is how you repay me? You cut school and sit home playing house with this piece of sh*t! You’re a goddamn wh*re!”
Yeah so like I said…ars hat.
Anyway Revealed deals a lot with Trystan and what he’s going to do with his life now that all of his secrets are about to be revealed. His father was arrested, he doesn’t have any place to live, and he’s Day Jones the guy who made a song for the girl he loved. Sexy, sweet, and scared Trystan faces his fears and takes the leap into stardom!
All in all while I enjoyed the story I was disappointed to not find out what happened with Trystan and Mari. Revealed was a great quick read and I loved this entire series.
