This is a Revell Germany 1/350 scale assembly and painting required plastic model kit of the World War II era specialized German Kriegsmarine minelayer submarine based on a lengthened hull adapted from the classic Type VIIC boat. Model kit features: 2-piece full hull with raised weld-seams and rivet heads; deck with engraved detail, deck gun; detailed conning tower (including periscopes and wintergarten with AA gun); injection-molded railings and display stand. Completed model is approximately 8.7" long. Decals and painting notes for 3 French-based, German submarines: U-213 of 9.U-Flottille at Brest, 1942; U-217 of 9.U-Flottille at Brest, 1943 and U-218 of 9.U-Flottille at Brest, 1942. 28 parts.

It is hard to overestimate the role of minelayers in naval combat. The German Navy used these elongated U-boats to place mines near enemy shipping routes. The Type VIID featured five mine silos, located just behind the conning tower. Each silo could store up to three mines each, making the Type VIID a formidable foe for the Allies.
