USA/USSR Missile Set

This is a gem of a kit. This revell-monogram model is very hard to find in its original (1983) state - in fact it is an expensive collectable now - so this re-release is great news for modellers interested in this period of cold-war missiles. The missiles themselves are very simple to build, most comprising just the two halves that can quickly be glued together. However, to achieve the paint finish shown on the box art you would have to spend a fair amount of effort. A good set of decals is included for the black checker stripes on the US models and the red stars on the USSR models. In addition, being in 1/144 scale, this set sits nicely, and in scale, alongside many other space rocket models from that era - the comparison say between the Titan and a Saturn V is particularly impressive.

Cool missile kit

This is best missile model kit I've ever seen. It is complete with ballistic and cruise missiles built by both Cold War superpowers, including the Minuteman, Peacekeeper, Titan, SS-18 Satan, Tomahawk, Trident, Pershing, and ALCM.

Of all the ballistic missiles in the kit, only the Minuteman and Trident are still in deployment with the United States military, while the SS-18 Satan, SS-19 Stiletto, and SS-N-18 Stingray are still in service with the Russian Federation. The ALCM and Tomahawk are still in use among the three cruise missiles in the kit.

While the US has not yet given the go-ahead for Minuteman and Trident replacements, the Russians are replacing their Satans and Stilettos with the new RS-24 Yars missile. As a matter of fact, the US is the only UN Security Council permanent member without a mobile-launched ballistic missile (the Trident is the only SLBM in use by two UN Security Council permanent members).

What I expected. Nice assortment of missiles. I got this to use in a retirement shadowbox for one of my buddies who was an Air Force missile officer - he was both impressed with the scale and assortment. Only gave this 4 stars because the cutouts in the base didn't fit the bases of the missiles very well and the missile names have to be hand-painted in order to get it to look like the picture. I was expecting at least some stickers.

I remember seeing this set in a hobby store about 6 years ago. Maybe longer. I kicked myself for not getting it! I've looked everywhere for it. For some reason, shops have stopped carrying them. Figures, right? Well, after a bit of digging around on the ol' inner-webs,low and behold-there it was online. I ordered it about a week ago and BAM! There it was. I tore into the pack like no tomorrow. It's just as I remember it. Now I'm on my way to building my own arsenal! These things are cool. I just hope mine will look as good. A very cool set and I was amazed at how fast they got to me. 1 week was phenom. It even has a Tomahawk.Now, I'm looking for a back-drop to put behind them-like a mushroom cloud, to show just how close we really came 'to midnight'. One of the coolest kits I've ever bought and I'm definitely going back to that seller for future projects!

I had a great time building this kit. The hardest part was hiding the seams on the missiles, but i used chip clips to do that. Most of the time was in the paint and setting decals. I recommend this kit i love the look of mine!
