WOW!!! I just finished reading this novella, and let me tell you...I am all over the place emotionally! The fact that this author—a brand new indie author, at that—was able to draw out so much emotion from me in such a short time blows my mind! Although I haven't went through exactly what Aurélie is going through, there were still many different emotions that hit close to home! I'm most definitely a fan of this author now!!
Now for a little bit about the book, while trying not to include any spoilers. This book is a NOVELLA that DOES end on a CLIFFHANGER! It's written in third person from Aurélie's POV. There are a very small handful of typos/grammatical errors, but in no way does it diminish or distract from the story. It takes place in a small coastal region of Italy and refers often to Paris, where she is from.
Aurélie is a very beautiful but extremely broken lady. After giving her all to a man and a marriage, only to be given hurt and heartache in return when she discovers he's been cheating on her, she begins her quest as a vigilante of sorts, with vengeance fueling her every step. Knowing that what she is doing is completely justifiable and only occurs when it is warranted, she seduces married men, then reveals their deceit in undeniable, unique ways.
Meanwhile...the kind, charming, and extremely sexy pastry chef, Raffaele, is slowly working his way into her life, mind, and possibly even into her heart. But when her ex-husband, Cristiano, shows back up after years of being gone, her world is tilted on its axis once again. The emotions...the memories...the pain...it all comes crashing down on her.
While she has changed a lot in those recent years to become a strong, bold, and erotic woman, she realizes she is still immensely broken and vulnerable. She sees herself for what all she has done wrong, and it sickens her, but Raffaele doesn't see all of her dark secrets and she knows he deserves much better. Feeling emotions other than hurt and betrayal and anger for the first time in years forces her to truly look at herself in the mirror. Is there a way to change all of that, or is it too late? What should she do? Should she let the past go and give Raffaele a chance? Or is she destined to remain the scorned vigilante, seeking justice in her own twisted ways?
This novella may be a short story, but it packs a mean punch and is only the beginning! If you want to experience emotions on a wide scale—betrayal, anger, sadness, broken down, self loathing, hope, friendship, sensual, craving, power, revenge—then you must read this book!!! I can't wait to read Book 2 and every other book this author publishes! I'm giving it 5 well deserved sexy and emotional stars!!
Here is just one of the many quotes I love from this book that has stuck with me:
"Aurélie had learned from heartbreak that love is not for idealists, but realists; it should always be passionate, but it is always dangerous. That infatuation is a game of power, but love leaves us powerless--and it is our dignity in its aftermath that defines us."
I did notice a few grammar mistakes but it wasn't enough for me to stop reading it. It tells a story of a woman who is beautiful and enchanting and in my opinion just want to be loved but she is focused one thing. But does she get that one thing?
This author can write some steamy scenes that will leave you breathless, you will fight hard and want good things to happen. I love how strong she made the heroine in this story, you can tell she has been hurt but she keeps fighting for what she wants.
This is a very quick read and how it ends will leave you wanting more and needing it now!
An original twist on the woman betrayed concept. Betrayed by her husband, she sets out on a plan of vengeance against all cheating men. Her plan works well, but in the end will she too be damaged again.
