Editorial Reviews

Review

"The author did a nice job of pulling me into the lives of Clarks.  I wanted to see the troubled family grow, change--and find a happy ending.  The book's storyline moved at a steady pace and kept me engaged in the characters' outcomes through to the end." - A Mama's Corner Of The World

"I really enjoyed reading Revenge Fires Back. I found that Brady and Derrick were easy to relate to and very typical of other kids their age. The story also really opened my eyes to some of the troubles we have with our Child Protective Services and our Foster Care System." - In Our Spare Time

"I don't usually read mystery and the only Christian books I read are sweet romance but I'm glad I stretched my wings into reading something different. This was a nice clean read, no profanity, sex, or language. Yet it kept me on my toes without adding unneeded elements." - Take Time For Mommy

From the Author

My inspiration for "Revenge Fires Back" came from several years of being a therapeutic foster parent. My heart was broken for the many children and teenagers who came through my home during those years. The stories I heard from those youths as well as from their parents and even from social workers were quite disheartening:
  • Child Protective Services taking children away from parents who were never found guilty of abuse or neglect
  • Children being placed on experimental medications for hyperactivity disorders
  • Sibling groups being broken apart unnecessarily
  • Youths being moved from foster home to foster home so frequently they develop attachment disorders
  • Young people being pulled out of school for tons of appointments and falling behind academically
  • Biological families and foster families going to war with one another
  • Foster parents abusing the children in their care
  • Unlicensed case managers supervising "wards of the state"
  • The list could go on forever!
Being an outsider for most of my life, I had no idea what "the system" was all about and I couldn't help but to think that there are probably millions of other people out there just like me - people who have no idea how children actually end up as wards of the state or what happens to them when they are in foster homes. Even though this book is fiction, I believe it will be a real eye opener for a lot of readers.

This book was written during one of my last years of fostering. A fifth grader who was staying with me at the time would ask me to read the book to him as it was being written. Every day he would sit down and eagerly listen to my story and sometimes even throw out suggestions or constructive criticism.
