"A taut thrilling romance of moral ambiguity... The thrills are intense and the suspense is strong, as the main characters struggle to determine who they can trust." -- Kerry L. Reis, Amazon reviewer
"5 stars = I freaking LOVED this book!!! Holy moly! I thought Malavita was good, but Ms. Delamar blew it out of the water with Revenge.... As Revenge is a romantic suspense novel about mafia families, there is no shortage of deaths--some were heartbreaking and some were well deserved. Despite this, I was still surprised by the level of deception that occurred in the book, but found the revelations in the Epilogue to be the most jaw dropping of them all. Revenge was an excellent addition to the Blood and Honor series and I look forward to reading Retribution to find out where the story goes from here." - Angela S. Goodrich, Crystal's Many Reviewers blog
"The first book in the Blood and Honor series ... gets things off to an explosive start." (4 stars) -- RT Book Reviews
"Wow where to start with this review. This book had me completely gripped from start to finish, I wasn't able to put it down until I'd read right to the last page.... An addictive read, with a passionate love story, great characters and plenty of suspense. Definitely a book I would read again." -- Amazon UK reader review
From the Inside Flap
The Blood and Honor Mafia romance series is set in Italy among the underworldof the Calabrian Mafia. Each story features a hero and heroine forced to makedifficult choices in a world where vendettas are quick to erupt and burn forgenerations; where family ties, both blood and criminal, drive every decision;and where passions flare up and threaten to blaze out of control.
Malavita (Blood and Honor, Prequel)- PG-13 (optional--you can start with R-rated Revenge instead)
I gave this 5 stars, since I could not give it 4 1/2; it's a book I know I'll read again.
I'm not usually the kind of person who will seek out a book that talks about the Mafia - I'm not typically a fan of 'stuff in boxes', etc, however, in this case, I'm very glad I took a chance and read it. The amount of research that Dana did was impressive and showed. The way she captured the language, the way that the Mafiso works in that area, the 'code' that some of the more 'respectable' Mafiso stick too and the visuals of the area are fantastic.
Quick breakdown of the novel ~
Kate, a fair skinned American beauty, is living in Italy; she married Vince Andretti after a whirlwind courtship and not knowing that much about his 'family', Kate is drawn into a world that she only heard about from the news and in hushed tones. Kate's gut has told her something is 'amiss' about her husband, little does she know that he is part of the ruthless Andretti family.
Enter Enrico Lucchesi, a handsome, widowed businessman who also happens to be the capo of the Lucchesi family; he is also Kate's boss at the orphanage where Vince has reluctently let Kate work.
Enter the twists and turns of this compelling novel.
Dana weaves such a wonderful story of love, passion, trechery, 'old code' and lies that I stayed up til after midnight reading. The novel got a slow start, then once it got going you were drawn into this 'world' where people live by a different set of rules. A world where men have closed door meetings, where you might receive something in a box that belonged to someone you and love as a 'message'.
You watch the main characters grow, they fight, the love, they lie and they feel; they are well rounded and you can actually picture running into them in Italy and seeing the events unfold. The end of the book left me wanting to read the next novel. (Which is set to come out in April of 2012)
There is plenty of description what this book is about from the author's blurb. I didn't read other reviews before choosing this book, but I imagine there is more detail in other reviews too. I loved this book and made the mistake of starting it at bedtime. A little reading before going to sleep. Don't do it!! Learn from my error. Putting this story aside was hard as I was hooked with the first chapter! This isn't like any other mafia romance I've read in the past. I've visited Florence, Italy, and the descriptions in this book brought back amazing memories of the charismatic Italian people, gorgeous vistas, gardens, history, art and more. The mafia, nope. That's all part of this book, but it reads like you're one of the Families and relevant to know the inside secrets, in detail. The old codes, bloodlines first, no drugs & prostitution, money laundering is a legit way of living as is protection. People protecting their businesses by paying the Mafia to watch over them, keep them out of harm from dangerous enemies. Add in romance, betrayal, mystery and this is a clear winner! 100% recommend and looking forward to reading the next 4-5 books in this series.
The story explained the teeming struggle for revenge, betrayal and control between the two mafia familiari. This story begins after so many years of marriage to Antonella and her passing Enrico is facing retaliation from her father Carlos(another Mafia capo). Kate is an American woman whom is married to Vincenzo(Carlos nephew) unknowingly that he was a mobster. After awhile Vincenzo attitude changed and he become abusive verbally as well as physically. In the beginnings, Kate was a strong-willed, smart and stubborn woman. She was shock and in pain she tries to think of ways to get out of the marriage and away from him(Vincenzo). Enrico noticed the bruise on her and tries to assist her in her ordeal; however, she was reluctant until Vincenzo appeared at her office in another one of his abusive action. The storyline was headed in the right direction but somehow detoured because Kate was under Enrico's protection, and the same day after Vincenzo's attack, she is having sex with Enrico??REALLY !!! Kate acted childish and a little paranoid with her whimpering, whining, indecisive actions that led to her safety. I love how everyone came together and how this wasn't just an easy love story but Enrico was too emotional and weak. I love it when the H is a true alpha-male more assertive and strong in a Mafia book. I really really wanted to LOVE this book...but some of the repetitious love scene( LUKEWARM) reminiscent about the past became boring after awhile.
