Minimalistic electronic composer Alva Noto joins eclectic pianist Ryuichi Sakamoto for yet another masterpiece. I own their other 2 collaborations Vrioon and Insen. Each one different in their own sense. Noto's music is not easy to digest, but Sakamoto's piano is the perfect companion to Noto's cold but precise digital sounds. The piano notes perfectly placed give each song a sense of breathing life. The first song SIISX is beautiful and as melodic as you will ever hear Noto. I continuously have it on my playlist when working on the computer or just trying to meditate. The second song MUR is more difficult, but equally beautiful. Less melodic but Sakamoto's piano resonates in the depths of your soul. The last song AX Mr.L has distorted fragments of Forbidden Colours, Sakamoto's collaboration with David Sylvian for the movie Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence. This is certainly an intriguing interpretation of that song. Overall an excellent EP from two individuals from different spectrums but both at the forefront of music innovation.
