Review
PREVIOUS EDITIONS:
- REVIEW 1: I purchased this book for board review purposes. I recently took the sleep boards offered by the ABIM (2009). I bought the book only 4 days before the exam, as someone highly recommended it and I wanted to do more practice questions. I would highly recommend this book! A lot of questions were straight out of this book (okay a few at least) and the material they review is certainly worth memorizing. I wish I had bought the book sooner. However, I must say that it is not well written with a lot of unorganized thoughts so I am glad I had used other resources to study for the exam but this should certainly be a book one can use to review material. Two aspects of this book that I highly recommend are the chapters pertaining to pharmacology and sleep deprivation and its affect on various systems. Will find out soon enough if I did well enough to pass, I thought the exam was difficult but fair.
- REVIEW 2: This book is excellent! Some of the questions, especially those pertaining to neuroanatomy and neurotransmitters, seemed quite difficult to me, coming at sleep from a pulmonary perspective, but it's a lot better to struggle during preparation than with the exam itself. Very well written and carefully edited, this book was very useful. Text very clear in concept, covers all major issues of sleep medicine.
- REVIEW 3: I bought and used this one during my training and found it very easy and to the point. I am still caring it in my book self and uses it regularly to reference or for queries.
- REVIEW 4: I took the Boards in 99 and wish I had had something like this. It is a wonderful review of the elements of Sleep Medicine that we don't use every day but that will likely be on the test. The practice tests are especially helpful. An absolute necessity. easy to read format with a density of information. i and others i recommended this book to were overjoyed to have had it for sleep boards.
"Although targeted at physicians who are preparing to take the ABSMcertification exam, the book is also a useful resource for otherhealthcare professionals who serve clients in a medical setting thattreats sleep disorders. This is a pandect on sleep medicine. Itundoubtedly ranks as one of the best test preparation guides for thosewho are preparing to take the ABSM exam." - Maureen Smith, MS, RN,APN-RC, Rush University Medical Center (5 Star Doody Rating)
