Jessica portrays Alexa with such emotion in her writing that you can't help but feel the sadness that weighs down on Alexa. Her sickness causes her to isolate herself from everyone after her parents disappear. After her grandmother leaves town she ventures out to a party at her friend Jazz's place. This is where she first catches a glimpse of Lacal, a handsome loner according to the gossip.
Lacal has been searching for Alexa believing her to be his Queen. Even though she's sick when he first sees her he's attracted to her. When next they encounter Alexa has mysteriously healed from drinking a potion that her grandmother had given to her before she left. The potion cures her and hopefully it will leave her open minded and she will listen to what Lacal has to tell her.
The chemistry and attraction that Alexa and Lacal have for one another is intense. Though there are times when clothes are being shredded, this book still takes you on an amazing adventure into the supernatural. The beliefs of Lacal's people and how they become evil is a different one from ones I've read before. It really works well. I can't wait to see where you have in store for us with book two.
This blew me away...I had tears in my eyes...I am an avid reader and not many books have made me feel tears, and this is certainly the first one that evoked that sense of sadness as soon as I met the main character. I don't particularly relate to the main character, the author just makes you connect with her through her story and beautiful writing. I was thoroughly impressed.
So, needless to say, I was pretty set for a sad story. It isn't all sad though, it isn't even mostly sad, it is full of twists and fantasy and wonder that will keep you up all night (it sure did me!). I can't say enough how well written and well rounded, and just all around awesome I thought this book was! I can't wait for the next in the series! Thank you Ms. Cage for a wonderful story :)
This story is intensely captivating. I’m a writer myself and whenever I read a truly great book, it stirs up the need to write one of my own. There were several times throughout the book where I was so inspired that I wanted to put it down and begin my own story but the need to know what was going to happen next wouldn’t allow me to. I loved the way these two characters interacted and I can’t wait to read the next book! Jessica Cage is a riveting story teller and I look forward to reading more of her work.
just loved this book, the relationship between the characters was well developed the world was well built and believable. 2 thumbs up!!
