Editorial Reviews

"Comrade Police Captain Viktor Voloshin faces a tough case that requires him to keep a murder secret from the public. As more information is revealed about the victim, it seems that his death may be pointing in another direction than first suspected. When a fellow cop gets targeted, Viktor must decide how far he will go, and what he is willing to do to extract justice when the law refuses to do it. Russia in the 1980s. The land of communism, violence and government secrets. What probably drew me in the most was the story was 'inspired' by true events. Spoken in first person point of view, I immediately got a good sense of the main character and his intentions while the scenes rolled around him. I was rooting for Viktor to succeed in a world where police are either corrupt or lose their jobs. He stands above the rest, gives people a second chance, and can see things from other perspectives. It is a brutal story that highlights the racism in the 80s, and the extent some will go to in order to maintain their beliefs. Totes realism and a raw savagery that kept me reading. Those that enjoy an explicit murder mystery with historical roots and international intrigue might enjoy this read."  - Sharlene Almond, Reedsy reviewer

BLAIR DENHOLM is an Australian crime fiction writer who juggles his author life with a demanding role as a translator for an international organization tasked with preserving wildlife in Antarctica. In a varied career spanning the globe, he has lived and worked in New York, Moscow, Munich, Abu Dhabi and Australia.

Denholm's new series, The Fighting Detective, starring ex-boxer Jack Lisbon, is now up and flying with the first three full-length instalments, Kill Shot, Shot Clock and Trick Shot. There's also a novella prequel, Fighting Dirty, which sets the scene for Detective Lisbon's unceremonious departure from the London Metropolitan Police. The series features heavy doses of noir crime with a vigilante justice twist. Expect at least six novels with Detective Lisbon, his fellow cops and a host of intriguing characters.

Denholm's debut novel, SOLD, is the first in a noir trilogy featuring the detestable yet lovable one-man wrecking ball Gary Braswell. The second book in the series, SOLD to the Devil, was released in June 2020. The final episode, Sold Dirt Cheap, will see the light of day in 2022.

Finally, Denholm is working on an ambitious crime series set in Moscow. Captain Viktor Voloshin is a hard-boiled investigator who has to fight the establishment in order for justice to be served in his own special way. The first in this series, Revolution Day, will be published in November 2021.

Blair currently resides in Hobart, Australia, with his partner, Sandra, and two canines, Max and Bruno.
