I have used this soldering station a few times now, the soldering tip heats up in a matter of seconds, the hot air gun is quick to heat up to. The dial on the right controls the soldering gun, and the two red buttons allow you to select temperature up and down for the heat gun. The heat gun also turns itself off when in the cradle - great safety feature. I have used the smaller tips as a plastic welder with great results. can't beat the price!

Bought this for the hot air and considered the iron side to be a bit of a bonus. So far both (one at home, one at work) are doing well for desoldering small components, and installing QFN and similar surface mount parts. The heat output is limited, so I might resort to a plain heat gun for something huge, but the auto-off in cradle feature is very nice.

Alas the iron side seems a bit more suspect - it works, but seems to run quite a bit hotter than set, with imprecise control. It's almost a free bonus with the air capability though, so useful to run as a secondary iron with a different sized tip.

It's too bad the hot air wand doesn't unplug like the iron does - since it's just wiring (no air run through the cord on this style) it easily could, which would make the unit very portable.

Exceeded my expectations. When I ordered this, I imagined waiting several minutes for the air to warm to temp and it being a challenge to handle as other reviewers commented that it stayed hot while in the cradle. But this couldn't be further from the reality. As soon as you hold the hand unit above the area you want heated the unit activates and warms very quickly. It gets to soldering temp within 20 seconds and when placed back into its cradle, it cools down. I didn't try the soldering iron because I own a Hakko FX888D but I suspect it is a fine unit as its well built and I believe temp controlled like the Hakko.

works well. No twmp degree read out for the iron only for the heat blow gun. I think that's kinda stupid to make a great unit and not incorporate a temp read out for the iron. It only has a pot with degrees set at various pot turns. COME ON..I would really give it 3.5 stars cause of that.///4-17-2016 the pencil iron is now not holdi g the temp. I get maybe two solder joints do e and the temp falls to a point thatt thw solder will not stick. This is so frustrating after reading good reviews. I am going to forget it and buy something else. Dont waste your time and spend a bit more to get a higher quality iron.

As others have said, the soldering handle has plastic threads that do not hold it together well. After about a month it was Co pretext stripped and the tip would not stay on. The company is impossible to get in touch with and you can't order replacement parts directly. Any compatible parts can only be found on eBay, and the replacement handles I got literally melted apart at the same plastic part. Very disappointed because the I it is solid otherwise, just wish you could use higher quality handle.

Excellent little soldering station. I will admit I wish the holder for the hot air blower was a little steadier. It falls off quite easily. The soldering iron is excellent as well. I was able to easily solder, it heated up quickly and evenly.

I was about to hang up the towel and never do soldering or electronics again. This set, plus a solder sucker and table vice, made it easy. Soldering irons always burned my hands and the handles were so short I had no control. This station was perfect for me. A beginner with not the steadiest hands, not good with precision work and needing plenty of practice time per session. This was a great addition and kept me using it for more stuff. The flashing heater light is not intuitive and I don't know when the iron is hot enough. It came with some plastic piece and a fork looking thing that I do not understand. Overall, great buy.

Overall this is a very nice product for the price, getting precise control and the rework ability is a steal when Home Depot is still selling the little fire-starters at $30.

The air does an auto-off when in the holder and the soldering iron gets nice and hot. I do have some doubts as to the quality of the temperature sensor in the air gun because it jumps the last 10 degrees when heating.

The nozzles for the air can come unseated quite easily, they don't lock into place, so you can hear some rattling and they'll fall out with too much use.
