I did recently have an issue where the unit immediately shut off a few times when I picked up the handpiece. It turned out the air flow was set fairly high, and after reducing it I didn't have an issue, but will be keeping an eye on that.
It's a bit unfortunate that the hot air temperature control is via buttons rather than a knob - I tend not to adjust it, and if using it for something like heat shrink tubing just try to get the job done before it gets up to desoldering temperature, or else hold it a bit further from the work. Conversely, it's too bad that the iron temperature is only on a knob with no digital display. In other words, this could be a far, far greater product with a little more thought to the firmware.
It's also a shame that while the iron is removable, the hot air handpiece's cord is permanently attached. Given that this fan-in-handpiece unit is so much more compact than the pump-in-base style, it would be great for carrying to field locations or hackathons, but the inability to disconnect the handpiece detracts from that a bit.
The air does an auto-off when in the holder and the soldering iron gets nice and hot. I do have some doubts as to the quality of the temperature sensor in the air gun because it jumps the last 10 degrees when heating.
The nozzles for the air can come unseated quite easily, they don't lock into place, so you can hear some rattling and they'll fall out with too much use.
I recommend it.
