I am so happy I found this unit on Amazon! I was looking for a reliable and quality made hot air/solder station and i found it at an amazing price! I am a small electronic engineer and this works PERFECT for all my needs! 11 tips for the solder iron leaves you with every possibility in the world for your solder need! The hot air comes with 3 tips and a wrench to put them on, this works amazing for small chips on boards! The hot air gun is also set to auto turn off and on when placed in its cradle, AMAZING FEATURE! The solder iron stand is made of plastic but has metal where is needed! It holds the iron very well and in a perfect angle for easy access! If you are in need of a workstation this is the one for you! It was for me!

Everything seems to work well with the kit. One time I turned on the hot air gun and the temperature skyrocketed past what I had set it to, which caused the sheath to turn blue permanently. Increasing the air fixed the problem with a puff of smoke out the end of the hot air gun; it has worked fine since then.
This version is actually branded MarkEthan, which is ironic because Yihua seems to manufacture the same kind of cheap Chinese workstation. I guess this seller isn't actually Yihua.
Anyway, I couldn't have afforded to get into micro soldering without a workstation this cheap, and so far it hasn't let me down. I do recommend turning up the air input on startup of the heat gun though. Also, the heat gun must be in its holder when you set the temperature or it will not start.

Ive only used it about twice but im really impressed with this station (898D). Its far superior to my handheld butane solder iron or my weller 50watt simple plug in style. This thing is pretty sweet, you can select temperature for both the heatgun and solder iron, granted its in Celsius but not a huge deal. The heatgun element will only heat when its off the stand which is a nice feature, when you place it back on the stand/station it starts an auto cool down. The solder iron im pretty sure works off of inductive heating, it will digitally show you it heating up, from cold to solder temp takes maybe 30-45 seconds. When you shut it off, it auto cools down. Also there is a fan speed control for the heatgun, so you can select the temp and then how hard you want it to blow. The 11 attachment pieces includes just about everything you need for all projects, also you get 3 or 4 heatgun nozzles for different size projects. Im really quite impressed with the features you get with the price you pay. I guess the only real con is the solder iron itself could be constructed from better material but overall everything feels solid and not really cheap. I would defiantly buy it again, this is by far the best and coolest soldering device i have ever owned.

Product arrived on time. Packaging was great.

I've been curious about China brand 898D stations like this for a while. Yihua is supposedly one of the better brands, so I went for it.

Per the product description, the unit I would receive would be labeled Yihua or "Mark Ethan". Mine was labelled "Mark Ethan".

After I unboxed the station I opened it up to confirm quality. Things I found:

- The main board bears the Yihua name.

- A couple wires had plug insulation sheaths that had slipped off their plug terminals, exposing their bare metal connectors. I slid those sheaths back in place.

- I found no other glaring problems. Mains (AC) wiring was correct. Fuse wiring was correct. Unit, air gun and iron are grounded. Overall build quality looked pretty good - but not "excellent".

- This unit has a master Off switch on the back, which I appreciate. You have to understand that the power switches on the front of the unit are "soft off" switches, so even if they are both set to Off the unit is still powered. The master switch (on the back) must be used to truly power off the unit.

Testing out the unit, I found the hot air gun's temperature calibration to be pretty good. But: the hot air gun produces some sort of power line noise when used - which can make fluorescent lights on the same power circuit seem to slightly flicker. Others have reported this in electronics forums I've read. The line noise apparently isn't dangerous, but it does mean the unit's design probably isn't as robust as it should be.

The soldering iron was a different story. At first I thought the soldering iron temperature needed calibration - but that proved not to really be the case. And this leads to my biggest gripe about this unit...

The soldering tips are terrible. They fit way too loosely on the heating element, which results in very poor thermal transfer. In order to get the supplied tips to actually flow solder I had to crank the temperature almost to the maximum. Not good. To "fix" this, I switched to Hakko T18 tips. Hakko T18 tips fit more snugly on the heating element and provide good thermal transfer. I believe the Hakkos have copper cores. I doubt the Yihua ones have any copper in them. Anyway, using Hakko tips with this unit gives very good soldering performance - with the indicated temp on the unit reasonably matching my temperature measurements of the tip.

I can't help but wonder exactly why the manufacturer chose to use such awful tips on an otherwise reasonable soldering station design. I mean, seriously, instead of including a collection of utterly useless tips they could include ONE quality tip (in the 2mm-3mm range). It probably wouldn't cost them more and they'd surely get more very positive reviews.

So, if you are serious about soldering and are considering this product: factor in the cost of having to buy some Hakko T18 tips.

After receiving this it was quite a bit smaller than the pictures make it out to be, but as long as it works right? Wrong, hot air gun and soldering iron feel cheap and tips for hot air gun are very thin and cheap plus are very loose in gun, then while trying to install resistors on a Mac motherboard you can turn off the air flow or at least to a level to where it doesn't blow the resisters off the board and loose them! Plus the temp is way off compared to my snap-on digital temp gun, and good luck trying to solder with the iron, so very disappointed , well I guess the saying is right you get what you pay for,
