It’s a tale that we’ve all heard a time or two. Crushing on your brother’s hot best friend. The forbidden fruit. And even though we know the story, I like to see what different authors can do to make their story an original. Unfortunately, I can say that this tale fell a little flat for me.

We start off with Charlotte. She’s the little sister of Will. They tragically lose their parents to a motor vehicle accident. So Will gives up a part of his late teenage/early twenties years to help take care of Charlotte. Charlotte has had a crush on her big brother’s best friend, Troy, since she was sixteen. Charlotte and Troy have been sneaking intimate moments together but they are both too afraid to admit their feelings to Will for fear that he would break them up. Instead they pretend that ‘they’ don’t exist and let Will be ignorant to their relationship. Troy and Will go off to college and leave Charlotte to fend for herself. Will pushes Charlotte towards a friend of his to help keep an eye on her while he’s away.

Contact is lost between Charlotte and Troy and after 4 years, Charlotte still thinks about Troy all the time. But it’s difficult to have a relationship that’s hidden when one person lives in Michigan and the other in New York. And after all this time, Charlotte finally decides that she wants to risk it all and go after Troy, so she moves to New York to be next to her brother and Troy.

I understand why Troy was standoffish to Charlotte when she first showed up. I mean, it’s been four years! But afterwards, Troy’s hot and cold behavior was super annoying and then out of the blue he seems to have an epiphany and decides to take a chance with Charlotte again. What? I was certainly put off by Troy’s behavior.

I really enjoyed Rewriting the Rules by S. Moose. This book has 2 of my favorite types of books rolled into one- forbidden romance and second chance romance. It's the forbidden best friends little sister and a second chance romance that never really had a chance to truly begin.

Troy and Charlotte were secretly in love with each other since they were just teenagers. The problem is that Troy is Charlotte's brothers best friend. Will gave up his dreams to help raise Charlotte after their parents were killed. All Charlotte has ever wanted to do is make Will proud and not disappoint him. So they decided to wait until she turned 18 to let Will know about the relationship. Things don't ever turn out how they're supposed to and Charlotte and Troy were separated. Troy was left heartbroken when Charlotte entered into a relationship with someone her brother wanted her to. Years later Charlotte can no longer be in a relationship with someone she's not in love with and she decides to go to be with her brother and get Troy back. Things get complicated and you will want to scream and pull out your hair at times. I love that this relationship wasn't made easy. Charlotte didn't get to just come back and Troy fall at her feet. Troy was hurt and he was quite frankly an ass. There were times I wanted to choke him and tell Charlotte to just give up. But as big of a jerk as Troy came across, he was also tender, loving and sweet. Another thing I loved about this book is the secondary character development. I can see another book in the future!

Looking for a great story that is part friends to lovers and part second chance romance? Look no further than S Moose's Rewriting the Rules.

S Moose gives us a quick read here that manages to be both sweet and sexy. *Sigh* Charlotte and Troy. In love since they were teens and she was 'too young.' And then throw in that extra little issue - you know the one, she is his best friends little sister! I hear ya, why should that be such a big deal right? (AHHH... you know I hate divulging too much of the story - I like you all to read and discover details like I did.) Let's just say that the way they are all there for each other does make it a tad bit stickier than your normal BF's sister deal. Otherwise I would have been a lil' annoyed too. But here both Troy and Charlotte have their own reasons for being gun shy. And I get them. So they have made a decision to wait to let her brother know about their feelings. But as tends to happen that damn thing called LIFE rears its head and interferes with their plans. Well that and Charlotte's need to please her brother.

Needless to say Charlotte and Troy don't end up together, but contrary to what both may think neither of them has been far from the other's mind. Now years have passed and circumstances have changed and Charlotte is back in Will (her brother) and Troy's lives. What does this mean for Charlotte and Troy? Can they pick up where they left off? Now don't be silly that would be too simple! What I truly appreciate about S Moose is that her characters need to work for it. Things don't just fall into place with a snap of the fingers. They need to put in the time and effort to rebuild what has been lost. To find their way back to one another.
