Product Description

This beauty represents the first family of world-class, yet affordable, carbon wheel performance. The 46mm Assault not only has a leg up on the best alloy wheels, but it can out-sprint, out-corner and generally out-perform any deep profile carbon wheel for a fraction of the price. For 2011 we’ve improved the layup composition and added our proprietary new CTg braking system to measurably improve stopping performance. All this for about what you’d pay for the finest alloy wheels.

Straight and to the point, these are great wheels so far. I read some horror stories about the 2010 Assault models and braking heat issues. These wheels have a different design from those. The CTg braking system along with the blue pads so far seems to be working great. I have experience no squealing either. These are my first full carbon wheels and the Reynolds Blue Pads work great and leaves very little residue behind that can be easily wiped away. I would say, the brakes in the dry are a 9/10 compared to my old aluminum braking surface with rubber pads (10/10). In the wet, I can say they don't have as much stopping power as the dry as to be expected. I can't say it is due to the carbon or pads honestly. I didn't ride my aluminum wheels in the rain much so I can't say exactly how they were in comparison, but when I did get caught in the wet, the aluminum was at least an 8/10. From my experience with the Assaults with the wheels being wet, I would say, the stopping power goes down to a 7-8/10 which in my book is still very good if not bordering on great. These wheels dropped 1.0 pound from my aluminum wheels that had an 18mm depth rim. I also measured 47mm depth with the Assaults compared to the advertised 46mm depth. Not that it is a big deal. Just bringing that to the surface for others to know. The ride quality is unlike any other wheel I have riden. I have riden Bontrager RXL wheels, Bontrager Race wheels and Mavic Kysrium wheels which all were very stiff, but felt every road crack with all those. I have noticed with the Reynolds Assaults, the ride quality is very smooth and cushioned. My bike frame, fork, stem and now wheels are all carbon. The ride difference from the wheel alone is worth it.Read more ›

The wheels have good performance in different situations. The 46 mm rim has good response under light wind. They look pretty and also have good value for price.

replaced my kysirium elites with ceramic bearings with these, I noticed a difference of how fast they spin up within a few hundred feet of riding them, the bearings in these are butter smooth as I was thinking I would change them but no reason to, they can hold high speed that my other wheels couldn't, I just have to say I am very impressed of how they can do it all, 1498 grams on my scale, road today in crazy winds with zero issues and just great set of wheels
