Top Customer Reviews
I started to seek an exchange online when I noticed that the price had dropped about $40. So I turned the exchange into a return, and then ordered a new one at the lower price. (The price rose again a day later. Not sure why the fluctuation, but I thought the price dip was fair compensation for the delay and the damaged goods.)
The second heater arrived a week later with just a barely noticeable dent, so that was a keeper. A few weeks later, some weatherization workers were admiring the heater's looks and remarked on the quality of Rheem heaters in general.
This Rheem works great. I think our old ('90s) A.O. Smith heater had accumulated a lot of sediment, because it was set at maximum heat and would sometimes run out of hot water. The dip tube had also deteriorated. This one is set much lower. The medium setting heated water to about 140 degrees, much too hot. It's now about 120 and hasn't run out yet amid laundry, dishwasher and shower.
We drained and removed the old heater ourselves. Having a handyman install the new one cost only $72, including parts. Because of our prep, he said it was his fastest install ever. All told, we bought and installed this heater for less than $500, when most area plumbers quoted us $1,100 for the job. Throw in the free delivery and Amazon's excellent return policy and process, and we think this was a good buy.
This arrived in perfect condition and dropped off as I requested in front of my garage. Given the reviews here on Amazon about dents I immediately opened as driver was still here so he could take it back if there was anything wrong but all was perfect! My handyman installed for less $100 including parts (he added an insulating pad under it which my previous water heater didn't have).
All in all an amazing purchase that saved me about 50%. It's been in use for over a year now and family couldn't be happier.
The first one that was delivered arrived with a couple of dents, so I returned it. The return process was quite easy. The second one arrived dent free, so I promptly installed it.
The contrast between old and new is remarkable; we have hot, hot water and no one in our family of four complains of running out of hot water when taking long showers - like they use to. I actually found I had to turn the thermostat down below the half-way point to have comfortable water - otherwise it was simply too hot. On the old heater, I almost had to have the thermostat turned up all the way!
Pros...Well built. Quiet. Price.
Cons...Ain't got any.
Will recommend wholeheartedly. This heater never gave us any issues. Sometimes we forgets that it is even there.
Is there ever a good time to have to replace a major appliance? Not so much.
Be that as it may I went shopping around the local home improvement stores only to find what I needed for over $500 plus installation. Yikes!
I usually tell everyone that Amazon sells everything so I thought I'd check to see if I could get a water heater online. Sure enough! There she was in all her glory! 50 gallons of happiness... and at an AWESOME price including shipping!
Hallelujah! The Package arrived just 7 days after ordering with some very minor scratches on the box but the tank was perfectly fine. [ADD Moment: We had very kind neighbors that let us use their shower while waiting for the new tank to arrive. Imagine 2 parents, 8 kids, no showers for a week. Oh the HORROR!]
Honestly, installation was a snap! $6.00 in gas line adapters, a phillips screwdriver and a large crescent wrench did the job!
Now if you'll excuse I'm going to go fight my way to the shower!
